A county Democratic official in Pennsylvania says he was forced to step down over a Facebook post saying he "[stands] for the flag."
Mark Salvas, the former executive director of the Allegheny County Democratic Party, told Pittsburgh's KDKA News that the county party chair asked him to resign after just weeks on the job.
Salvas, a former Marine and Gulf War veteran, told KDKA that his forced departure was prompted by two social media posts, including one photo of him and his wife with the words: "I stand for the flag, I kneel at the cross."

"I stand for the flag, I kneel at the cross." Then explain to me, Marine, why did you join the Democratic party?

He is pretty typical of a lot of old-school Western PA Democrats. The door is open for Republicans to recruit voters if the state party here were not too STOOOOOOPID to take advantage of it.

Because he lives in WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA. It is in the water here. It's endemic to the culture. "Republicans tried to bust your grandpa's union. Democrats are FOR DA WORKIN' MAN! Republicans support those EEEEEVIL robber barons like Henry Clay Frick. FDR was a Saint." Drilled into heads for several generations and it's not getting undrilled overnight.
Though incidents like this will go a long way towards jump-starting that process.

Weak response. Forced to resign? Should have stayed and let them fire him if that is what they really insist on. If he wasn’t so weak, he’d be a potential great add to the Republican column.

Exactly. The friend of the working man crap runs deep and is very entrenched but there are a lot of cracks in that wall. This kind of stuff will help.

You missed the post that got him out.

I grew up near Pittsburgh. Very blue dog. You’d think the steel mills being shut down would have opened their eyes to being sold out by union bosses and power-hungry dems.

The Democrat Party here also formed an unholy alliance with the Catholic Church which secured the intergenerational loyalty of Irish, Italians and Poles.
The Church is now in full-on meltdown mode, brought about by scandal, while Millenial Techie Democrats continue to move to the area, bringing their San Francisco values with them.
I think the cracks are about to start spreading much faster.

I personally know people sitting around down in the Mon Valley who STILL believe that the mills will come back, bringing all of the overcompensated union jobs with them, if only we would elect the "right" politician. It's a form of stupid you can't fix.

I have noticed many veterans are pro socialist. They think that the way the military is run would be good for civilian society.

The Dems this cycle went out with a very deliberate strategy of recruiting military vets to run for House seats. And if you take a look at who is running it appears they were rather successful.

Decades of watching the fiasco that is Latin America should have taught us that armies pretty much suck at governing.
