The Trump administration is considering using West Coast military bases or other federal properties as transit points for shipments of U.S. coal and natural gas to Asia as officials seek to bolster the domestic energy industry and circumvent environmental opposition to fossil fuel exports, according to Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and two Republican lawmakers.
The proposal would advance the administration's agenda of establishing American "energy dominance" on the world stage and underscores a willingness to intervene in markets to make that happen. It's tantamount to an end-run around West Coast officials who have rejected private-sector efforts to build new coal ports in their states.

A breakthrough in Fusion energy is only 360 years away!
And a nice answer to the liberal cities that refuse to use their ports to ship fossil fuels
I love an end-run around dims.
And build a back up coal-fired electricity plant on site...for national security.
Do it!
BHaaaaaaaa!!!! He’s just doing this to piss off Kalifornia democrats!!!
Fine. But why the need to ship it through military bases? This idea, for example.
Zinke specified only one site that could serve as an export hub, for natural gas: the former Adak Naval Air Facility in Alaska's Aleutian Islands, which he suggested could receive fuel by barge from the North Slope.
Why ship it from the mainland to an island hundreds of miles away only to export it? Wouldn't it make more sense to build the gas processing port on the mainland and have the ships come there?

Of course. However, the west coast states are denying permits for exporting facilities. To save the polar bears...
Alaska? Come on.
“The US has a 360 year supply of coal”
So you want to sacrifice the energy future of your great, great, great, great, great, great, great grand children for cheap energy now?
Alaska’s a a huge recipient of subsidies and welfare for the size of its population, as far as I know. If exporting natgas creates high-paying jobs up there and reduces the welfare load, so much the better.
Fort Ord, Monterey.
Winning!
Its a borderline call, but YES.
If we have some very cold winters, that may only be 258 year supply, then we'll be sorry:(
CA won’t allow any more refineries? Okay...CA doesn’t get any more petroleum products that are refined in other states. No more electricity generated in other state. Two can play that stupid game.
LOL! I hope they do it just to piss-off the Leftists.
Yep! However, build it to 1940's standards... That will really be a "learning" event...
At least the smoke and soot would finally clean up their poop-covered streets..
Is that 300 year supply based on total coal in the ground or the economical to mine reserves? Return on investment(ROI) must be in place for any mining operation, other than a government mandated extraction of the resource.
We have rare earths, tungsten, other materials not economical to extract when compared to availability at current cost on the world market. We should assure a sufficient stockpile materials to cover a potential embargo, as to allow a transition period in setting up of domestic production.
That's my birthplace. Bill Clinton gave the base away back in the nineties.
