This might just be the best article VDH has even written.

New word for me:

Maenads (maenadism)

In Greek mythology , maenads ; Ancient Greek : were the female followers of Dionysus and the most significant members of the Thiasus , the god's retinue. Their name literally translates as "raving ones".

-—The many methods to subvert Trump’s presidency or fantasize about his gory death were as varied as the number of faux-accusers who would come out of the woodwork to smear Brett Kavanaugh. And the result was eerily the same: the more the impotent frenzy, the more it discredited its source.-—

VDH is like a Stradivarius.

Many nice lines:

Progressives went regressive in their furor and demonized Trump’s picks to such a degree that there was little chance that a Georgetown cocktail circuit would ever manage to turn a Gorsuch or Kavanaugh into a Souter or Stevens.

The point, that Kavanaugh has zero risk of crossing over to the dark side is a good one. That is one man who cannot be seduced by the hateful left. He's one of their most prominent victims, so he will always be loyal to decent people.

This was an AWESOME article! VDH well summarizes and clarifies the events from 2016 till now, and shows how the radical left is banging its head on the wall with frustration from the constant WINNING by DJT.

Remembering all the wailing, crying, meltdowns in the street post election still brings a tear of joy to my eye.

the first serious presidential candidate with neither military nor political experience.

Not quite

Trump molded by military school as a teenager

And 50 years negotiating with corrupt politicians, even more corrupt civic bureaucrats, union thugs, and mafia controlled construction suppliers.

Best was mocking Mayor Koch in the press over the skating ring fiasco.

Nothing like an injection of VDH to put a spring in your steps today. Great uplifting read that describes the rise of Trump and the collapse of the democrat party.

I wonder how much little Billy Kristol is peeing his pants right now?

He went very quiet during Kavanaugh, didn’t he?

Punk his ass.

Obama was the left eating all its Halloween candy in a single sitting. It tasted good and felt good for a few fleeting seconds. Now they’re dealing with intestinal distress, rotting teeth and bad breath - although the breath problem may not be candy-related.

“What has transformed the Democratic party into an anguished progressive movement that incorporates the tactics of the street, embraces maenadism, reverts to Sixties carnival barking, and is radicalized by a new young socialist movement?” VDH

I’ll admit, I’ve never seen the term, “maenadism” and had to look it up.

“In Greek mythology, maenads were the female followers of Dionysus and the most significant members of the Thiasus, the god’s retinue. Their name literally translates as “raving ones”.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maenad

Obviously, VDH has spent time working at carpentry: he really “hit the nail on the head” with this description!

VDH and Andrew McCarthy are about all that’s good left at National Review.

Loved the line in this VDH article, “...the ‘kick me’ McCain campaign...” :)

An observation, not a criticism on VDH and similarly-aged pundits:

Those who grew and matured during the Reagan years are now a significant portion of the upper tiers of business and government. It is not only their default position to be conservative but to question the existential roles of government in all things. Does this make them libertarians? Not necessarily. But political observers who rely on scope-of-history surveys seem to downplay or ignore altogether than today’s 45-55 year olds are often more conservative than, say, Pat Buchanan.

Many (most?) of us are not as interested in what EPA or DEA policy should be; rather, we question or oppose the existence of the EPA and DEA in whole or in part. In Trump we have an occasional kindred spirit.
