Elizabeth Warren goes to bat for Toys R Us workers

Tens of thousands workers laid off when Toys R Us went bust last year have a politically powerful new ally in their fight to win severance from the bankrupt retailer: Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

The Massachusetts Democrat, who is rumored to be weighing a run for the White House in 2020, is pressing the financial firms behind the decision to liquidate Toys R Us to contribute to a fund for affected employees.

"The liquidation of Toys R Us -- reportedly at the urging of your firm -- caused more than 30,000 American workers to lose their jobs without the severance they would otherwise receive," Warren wrote Tuesday in a letter to Steven Roth, CEO of Vornado, which had an ownership stake in the retailer. "I strongly urge you to participate in discussions about financing a viable hardship fund for the affected families."

In a similar letter sent to five large holders of Toys R Us debt, Warren asked if the creditors had rejected potential acquisition offers for the company.

Doing the job other Stupid Senators won’t.

Asking a private firm to do more than the law requires...even violating Federal BK law to make employees SENIOR to all other debt holders, above and beyond payroll obligations.

This ask requires a change in Federal Law.

If Democrats were as stingy with the taxpayer’s money as they are with their own money then the country wouldn’t be in debt................

I worked for FIVE retailers who all went bankrupt.
Never got a severance check from any of ‘em.

Suck it up, Buttercup.

Yeah, it’s a tragedy to see an iconic entity like that be picked clean by vultures. Sears could have literally been Amazon had they embraced eCommerce, what a historic missed opportunity.

Employees always lose their jobs when a company goes under.

Guvment critters are not familiar with the concept of people losing jobs.

Like a good Dem snake, she gets to play the savior on someone else’s dime. Since when do peons get “severance”? I thought that word only belonged in the management class.

Assuming everything was done legally regarding the bankruptcy and liquidation process, what exactly is her beef? Employees always lose their jobs when a company goes under.

She is trying to get the creditors that are liquidating the assets to recoup their losses to "donate" that money to the former employees of the company that defaulted on their loans.

So very SOCIALIST of her.
