“Do they give credit toward a degree for completion of these courses?”
Several universities offer an option of a specialized “Certificate” in certain areas for a small fee. Some of these courses are full semester with a lot of intense study and work. I did a Medical Neuroscience course through Coursera that was actually taught by Duke University. It was fabulous as it was taught as a learning diagnostic tool by providing symptoms and you were to identify the most likely area of the brain damaged but also the reverse by providing a damaged area and you needed to identify the symptoms. All for free.
