Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is defending her decision to release a DNA test and political ad asserting she has a distant Native American ancestor — even as the Cherokee Nation condemns her for it, Republicans mock her, and political analysts wonder if she has crippled any hopes she had of competing in the 2020 presidential election.
“Donald Trump goes in front of crowds multiple times a week to attack me,” Warren told members of the Boston Globe editorial board Tuesday, referring to the president’s relentless mockery of a six-year-old accusation that the senator used to identify as a Native American at law school in the 1990s.
“I got this analysis back, and I made it public,” Warren continued, the newspaper reported. “How do you sit here if you know what it is, and people ask, and you don’t give an answer?”

Seeing Lizzie Warren exposed as a fraud is pretty satisfying.
Her self righteousness is bringing a just reward now.

Surely she already had that constituency locked up. Clearly she scuttled her own presidential ambitions, far worse than what Howard Dean did.

She could have used this to her advantage. If she’d come out and said that, well, we had this great old family story, but, you know, sometimes family stories are just that. Now my DNA analysis has showed that it’s really unlikely that my great (however many greats it was originally) grandma was Cherokee after all! I was SO convinced that the family story was true, that I allowed Harvard to list me as Native American. I’m sorry now; if DNA had been readily avaiable back then, I would had it checked.
It really was a wonderful family story, and our family got so much enjoyment out of it, but as I said, sometimes a story is just that. In this, President Trump was absolutely right!
By the way, I’m making a donation to the Cherokee tribe, that wonderful group of people I so wish I really was a part of!
She could have said something like that and made herself look like a mature adult, gracious, and honest. She could have actually made something positive out of this and made herself look good.
For some reason, she doesn’t seem to be capable of that.
(My family had a Cherokee great-grandma story too, not borne out by DNA. We just shrug it off, and maybe joke about not getting “our” casino. )
