The rigging of American politics
Vox ^ | 10/16/2018 | Ezra Klein

Posted on 10/18/2018 5:13:09 AM PDT by Lazamataz

Brett Kavanaugh was nominated to the Supreme Court by an unpopular president who won 3 million fewer votes than the runner-up. He was confirmed by a Senate majority that represents a minority of the country. He was confirmed despite most Americans telling pollster after pollster they did not want him seated on the Supreme Court.

Nothing about Kavanaugh’s ascension breaks the rules of American government. Donald Trump is the duly elected president of the United States. Republicans hold a majority in the US Senate. Elected officials bear no responsibility to follow public opinion. Yet the left sees Kavanaugh’s confirmation as illegitimate, and they’re turning their ire on the composition of the US Senate and their focus to the possibilities for future court-packing and judicial impeachment.

KEYWORDS:
Klein, as usual, draws all the wrong conclusions.

Instead of seeing ubiquitous voter fraud as 'rigging', he sees in in the confirmation of SCOTUS judges by Presidents who won the Electoral college but lost the popular vote.

Instead of seeing illegal aliens 'rigging', he sees it in the Electoral college itself.

He does wander into one or two good points, seeming to be slightly opposed to the concept of court packing, and is concerned with the boiling-point political divide that now exists.

But still. He's a liberal. So, on the whole, he draws conclusions at-odds with reality.

Blah blah blah popular vote! Blah blah blah democracy! This is a constitutional republic, Ezra! Get over it!

To his credit, he actually does explore the concepts as to this Republic versus our being a "Democracy". However, it seems he dismisses the concept as unworkable, old.

I still hold, though, that for a rabid leftist like Ezra, this is a surprisingly "only somewhat left of center" editorial.

Who knows, we might make a Conservative out of him yet.

Yeah...the first paragraph is...well...somewhat skewed. If not, totally delusional.

You guys actually read his writing on a regular basis? Ugh!!

Cringe worthy in my book. I don't regularly read "Vox" and don't intend to make a return visit anytime soon.

You can see he is on the edge of suggesting the DemonRat plantation owners deserve better representation via their illegals than our constitutional republic allows them.

Garbage.

People like Klein are as predictable as old Deadheads who still wear tie dye shirts and have peace symbols on their bumper.

He is a typical pseudo-intellectual who thinks ‘academics’ are the seers of the world and should be running the world. His wife went to Harvard and is a proponent of Universal Basic Income. His father is/was a mathematics professor. He’s certainly entitled to his views, but he is not entitled to dismiss the will of the voters, or infer that urban population centers should dictate to the rest of us. God forbid.

WTF do IDIOTS keep calling TRUMP an unpopular President?!!!

TRUMP is like at 50% on Rasmussen, 47% on FOX, 45% on Economist, 45% on Reuters

Aggregate of 47% plus he is higher or the same as Obama!!!

Obama had 90% positive media compared to 90% NEGATIVE MEDIA for TRUMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just the next step in their long-term plan to ditch the Electoral College.

I always take issue with those who claim that the majority didn’t want Kavanaugh to be confirmed. The poll that claimed 50% wanted him confirmed against 47% that didn’t also had this little tidbit, ‘when told that none of Ford’s witnesses backed her claims, the percentage that wanted him confirmed rose to 67%’. HOW ARE THERE PEOPLE WHO DIDN’T KNOW THAT NO ONE CORROBORATED HER STORY?? Then I figured it out.....the LSM didn’t report that NO ONE corroborated her story. They are definitely the Fifth Column in this country.

He was confirmed despite most Americans telling pollster after pollster

Last I checked, the population of the U.S. is about 326,000,000. I wonder if I am the only American not included in the polls?
