California will reconsider life sentences for up to 4,000 nonviolent third-strike criminals by allowing them to seek parole under a ballot measure approved by voters two years ago, according to court documents obtained by The Associated Press on Thursday.

The state will craft new regulations by January to include the repeat offenders in early release provisions. Gov. Jerry Brown also will not appeal a court ruling that the state is illegally excluding the nonviolent career criminals from parole under the 2016 ballot measure he championed to reduce the prison population and encourage rehabilitation.

The state parole board estimates between 3,000 and 4,000 nonviolent third-strikers could be affected, said corrections department spokeswoman Vicky Waters, “but they would have to go through rigorous public safety screenings and a parole board hearing before any decision is made.”

It’s the second such loss for the Democratic governor, who leaves office days after the new rules are due. Another judge ruled in February that the state must consider earlier parole for potentially thousands of sex offenders. The administration is fighting that ruling, which undercuts repeated promises that Brown made to voters to exclude sex offenders from earlier release. …

Democrat. The felon party.

Turn career criminals lose on the unwashed masses. The elites care not a whit.

Once again, we pass a prop & those in charge bend us over. But really what difference does it make, since every other criminal is allow to violate laws in CA anyway.

So 3 times {just the 3 times they were caught} these people proved they cannot behave in a civilized society.

The only solution is to remove them from society along with the liberals who give them aid, comfort and cover.

Release them in Jerry Brown, Nancy Pelosi, and Gavin Newsome’s neighborhoods.

Do 75 in a 55 zone in VA and you have committed a felony. Try driving 55 in a 55 zone and you will be rear ended.

Really glad I no longer live in CA but these felons will scatter as soon as they are legally able to. A high percentage will return to a life of crime. This time with violence.

"3,000 and 4,000 nonviolent third-strikers could be affected..."

Here's where they hide the lie. The way the stupid early release Prop was written (intentionally deceptive), only the criminal felon's MOST RECENT conviction is looked at.

In other words: First Strike: Rape, Second Strike: Attempted Murder, Third Strike: Residential Burglary. Well, gee whiz, burglary isn't "violent", so the thug is eligible under that law.

It should be life in prison for anyone unable to count to three.

Don’t be. The swamp continues to inundate the old-time bible belt. It’s a toxic mix.
