What happened to this guy isn't new. Muslims have been doing this and worse to enemies or perceived enemies for 1400 years. It is historical with them.
Of course they have. So have others eg the Nazis, the Japanese, the Soviets, Pol Pot, Castro just to name a few. All of them created great political tensions and some dragged us into war. I trust Trump, he’s been masterful so far. I believe this caught him by surprise, as did the media and political fallout. He has to respond to the pressure as I wrote above and so far he’s kept a cool head.
There are many related or consequential elements to all this. Personally, I am not pleased at the way we support SA’s war in Yemen. I don’t have a side between Yemen and SA except that I understand Iran’s involvement - but from what I have seen SA has been barbaric and I don’t like that we seem to be backing them without limit. I don’t want to draw a direct comparison here except to say that as far as diplomacy goes, we put way more pressure on Israel in how they respond to terror attacks and it appears to me that SA is the aggressor in this case. I understand the geopolitical tension and the need to thwart and isolate Iran. I think Obama made a far worse mistake with Iran than Clinton made with North Korea, and Trump has to deal with it. I am furious Obama made a deal with the people (Iran) who have backed and trained the militias in Iraq to kill and maim American servicepeople with IEDs and other attacks. So AFAIC screw Iran. I think from what I have seen Trump is pushing in the right direction with regards to Iranian involvement in Syria - slow but in the right direction. I’m not so sure the way SA is dealing in Yemen is as forthright, nor the way we have backed them seemingly unconditionally because of the geopolitical importance of SA and the GCC.
