PRAYER
Dear Lord,
As we offer You thanks and praise, we realize how important it is to stay prepared for all the surprises in life. Daily, so many things catch us off guard, though they seem to happen over and over again. Would life be easier if we could begin the day with, "This is a drill. This is a drill"? Would we be any more prepared if there were drills for the many personal challenges we respond to daily? Besides a "general quarters" for missile hits, we'd prepare to take hits for all the mistakes we're bound to make in the course of a day. In addition to handling major fuel oil leaks, we'd be trained to stop major gossip leaks before they have a chance to hurt our shipmates' reputations. With drills for day-to-day life scenarios, not only would we be prepared to fight "Class Charlie" fires, but through regular drilling we'd learn to extinguish classroom behavior which too often alienates those who are young and new to our crew. Since we find ourselves in need of greater help, we call out to You, Lord, over the sound-powered phone of prayer. Surely Your throne is the Damage Control Central, where You plot our lives and note our dilemmas. We confess that we have crossed the secondary and even the primary boundaries You set to protect us. Therefore, we flee to Your repair locker for grace and mercy. Lord, patch us up, revive us, and restore us. Keep us fit to serve You with renewed strength and ready to take on each new day. In Your strong name we pray. Amen CDR David D. Schilling, CHC, USN
