Memorial to a parachuting flyer at a Hanoi lake:

This memorial is not explicitly TO McCain, however that lake in the background IS the one he parachuted into after being shot down over Hanoi.

WHAT did he do to earn this commemoration, I wonder..?

You have no idea what the nickels on the marker signify, do you?

I’m pretty sure that’s the lake that Andrew Zimern of Bizarre Foods goes to for a freshwater prawn fritter.

As per http://ktla.com/2018/08/30/john-mccain-remembered-as-a-friend-in-vietnam-not-an-enemy/ , the marker originally celebrated shooting down McCain’s plane. Now that McCain is dead and in honor of his part in normalizing diplomatic relations with Viet Nam, it is something of a shrine to him.
