James Madison Institute's just-released analysis of the two main governor candidates' economic platforms could wither a cactus.
Most of us realize Ron DeSantis and Andrew Gillum have wildly contrasting economic plans, but I don't think we ever truly understood how much our choice on Nov. 6 could cost Florida and affect Floridians' way of life, perhaps for generations.
Ron DeSantis' platform would maintain Floridas status as a low tax state and a national economic leader;
Andrew Gillum's "would cost $2.6 billion in additional state taxes, not including his support for Medicare-For-All, which will raise taxes significantly more" and put Florida on an economic par with some of the highest-taxed nations in Europe.
Blow this study off at your own peril. This is JMI's business. It's what they do. For more than 30 years, the Tallahassee-based think tank has provided elected leaders and everyday Floridians with objective, compelling and timely information on policy issues affecting Florida's economy.
This analysis, "Election 2018: Platforms, Proposals, Projections," is only a continuation of JMI's mission.
If Florida chooses Gillum, "the economic impacts of abandoning the current low tax/top business climate rankings of Florida, based on the experience of the higher tax states presented in this brief, would ultimately cost Florida direct employment losses of 155,000 jobs and $28.2 billion in economic losses per year," say the authors.
In the end, it's Florida voters who must weigh the costs of each candidates agenda and choose which policies/candidates they believe will create a brighter, more prosperous future for Florida.

It certainly seems to apply in this case...
No.
Hell no.
NO! NO! NO! NEVER!!! We LOVE Florida as it is!!
Same here. It’s a capitalist’s paradise. One thing to keep in mind though is that FL is sort of a mini California.
You have to be nuts to vote for this socialist jerk.
If you’re foolish enough to elect him you deserve what he’ll do to you
Floridians, be sure to thank your million recent Puerto Rican refugee citizens for your new socialist Governor.
If hes elected, the wife and I moving. May have to retire early, but would be worth it.
I think the real, estate market will crash here if that
evil evil evil person wins .
Unless my FL FReeper FRiends take buses filled with like-minded voters to the polls, I’m afraid we’re likely to find out
Not true the Puerto Ricans I know love Trump and hate that Mayor back in the island.
Where in fla do you live?
Where will you move to?
Can I be your neighbor ?
Go scout out a good location and I’m right behind you
I’ll bring the flag
I saw the poles and wondered what was going on them. I also can’t believe that Gillum is leading in many of them. If so, Floridians must be off their meds again!
We will still have a GOP house and senate, but there would be upheaval in the state. Lots of stupid, genius college kids here who vote and dumb Yankee transplants. My gut says he loses. DeSantis has been a lousy campaigner though. Pray hard for good sense to prevail.
Ha! Im Mississippi native, thats where I will return to when I retire. Got a HUGE family there.
I listened to the Florida debate for awhile until I couldn’t stand the sound of Gillum’s voice nor his cultural style of delivery any longer. His body language spoke volumes!
I’m in Ft. Lauderdale. My family has been in South Florida since 1923.
Family in Ocala has been there since the civil war.
