An official says the single-engine plane that crashed on a Southern California freeway is a North American AT-6 that belonged to a squadron of vintage aircraft.

Condor Squadron President Chris Rushing says the pilot was unhurt and managed to land the plane on U.S. 101 on Tuesday without hitting any cars.

Me-109 has an inverted V-12 engine. The AT-6 has a 9 cylinder radial.

I was separated from my first grader til after 7 pm. My friend was stuck on the freeway for 4 hours. That pilot who made it out without a scratch, I’d like to give him a few.

My friend was stuck on the freeway for 4 hours.

Sounds like a typical LA commute.

Sitting on the freeway for four hours would be very trying. Being apart from your 1st grader was also unfornunate. Are you even a little thankful a man’s life was spared today? Your life and your friend’s life was spared today because that pilot knew how to land that failed plane. Thank God he didn’t crash into you or your friend or anyone else and saved himself as well.

No, not really. The typical commute is crawling along, always making some mild progress. This was people outside of their cars, a mile from either exit, completely trapped for hours.

I am thankful lives were spared. I’d have to know more about why the pilot was flying a 90 year old plane over a city during a busy week day before I feel sorry for him. While people were still trapped on the road and separated from their kids, he was seen on tv chewing gum and acting like it was nothing. I hope that attitude was just from him being in shock.

The AT-6, called the Texan or Mosquito, saw some combat in Korea and in other wars.

It is a miracle that he did not hit anyone. That seems so miraculous to me because that freeway always has so much traffic on it. It is just miraculous and I am glad you are safely home, though it was very trying for you and so many.

Hope you have a better evening from this point.

Thanks. We are all good today, and I whipped along the lane where he crashed without being able to see exactly where it happened. Good cleanup crew.
