He’s a bit of a divider around here. To some he’s a sage; others think he’s a lunatic. Par for the course on punditry, I’d say.

Savage doesn’t get much for props on Free Republic. As another poster pointed out, folks around here are divided about him.

If I had to guess, I’d say that only a small minority of Freepers listen to him regularly.

I personally think the guy is a troubled soul, who has occasional flashes of brilliance.

Savage and Rush are 2 completely different animals. I listen to both.
Rush’s mission is to advance Reagan Conservatism.
Savage’s mission is to entertain Reagan Conservatives.
Savage is easily the most hilarious of all the talk hosts. But I don’t think he himself is a Conservative at all. I think he is an old guard demonrat who is frustrated with the direction of the party — a lot like Pat Caddell.
Also, Savage hates EVERYONE! — except his little dog Teddy...

I used to listen to him every weekday, back when KSFO AM was full of talk talent, one star after the other.
That changed, and after a few years I had enough of Mike’s pessimism.

So I listened to others. I still have great respect for Mike as an intellectual and a media entertainer.
I hear he can be a hassle to deal with when he doesn’t get his way. I liked hearing his personal stories when he was calm. When he was speaking of things he likes, such as foods, wines, and pets.

Mercurial, formidable, exhausting, needy, one to hold a grudge, hilarious and deliberately complex describes him.

Michael Savage can be very informative at times, but very infuriating at other times. Like Mark Levin, Michael Savage can get very angry, and anger is not really a good business plan for drawing in listeners. The one main difference between those guys and Rush, is that Rush is usually cheerful even under the worst circumstances, and doesn't lose his cool.

When he's "on his meds" Michael Savage is OK. But Michael has mood swings and sometimes rambles on about boring topics. But we can all thank Michael for popularizing the phrase "borders, language, culture".

Based in California, Michael Savage warned about the growing problem of illegal immigration years and years before it was on anyone else's radar.

He was pretty good sometimes, but insufferable when he would talk about himself or other talk show people. Sometimes you could tell he would throw a fit for dramatic effect

My principal impression of him is that he screams a lot and I have too limited a tolerance for that to ascertain anything more.

I didn’t listen to that Sam Kinnison guy either.

I am a huge fan of Michael Savage, I’ve been listening for years and I try to listen daily but I’ve been so busy lately, I can only lusten to his downloads a few times a week. I think he’s fantastic - he’s been a life preserver for me too manty times to count.

I do enjoy his show. But he’s up against Buck Sexton in my market and I’m often listening to him as well for a change of pace.

Savage was one of the first big Trump supporters in talk radio because Trump was perfect on Savage’s “Borders, Language, Culture.” I listen whenever I can.

I kind of go hot & cold on Savage. Sometimes he’s quite entertaining, other times he’s a truly irritating incessant complainer. He comes on at noon, CA time (or he did, I am not up on the scheduling change he just went through) because at that time I am usually deeply engaged in the stock market and I need to focus like a crazy man on what I am doing. And if he is on some rant about something or other....in that particular time it’s destructively distracting to me.

In general, I think he has largely run out of most of the very entertaining stories he has told over the years, and goodness knows there have been many of them. But that means he is now oriented much more to commenting, more like reacting, to current items in the news. Well; “current items in the news” are after all sourced from “the news” which is, as we all know, generally total BS and propaganda. So: I not only don’t want the crap generally reported in “the news” to enter my awareness; even less do I wish to hear commentary about crap I don’t care to hear about and which will prove to be utter nonsense in 2 days. The bottom line, to me, is that he infuses chaotic noise if I am wanting to be focused on something of far greater importance.

I only have so many hours to listen on YouTube replays:

I dropped Levin early during the ‘16 campaign
Savage was always 50-50 for me
Bongino now is my go-to guy for his one hour and
There’s always the first hour of Rush

Loved Quinn & Rose til they split & Quinn got behind a paywall

I think he is touched and not in a good way. However, he has moments in which he is lucid and brilliant. Unfortunately, those moments are occasional. The screaming followed by meandering thoughts made me at most a spotty listener. He is no longer on in this area. When he took over Hannity’s time slot, ratings fell by more than half and the time slot is now filled by a local host.

i cannot bear to listen to him. He’s rude to his callers. Without them, he’s got no show.
Rush, on the other hand, is always gracious, even if the caller cannot get to the point.

I like Savage but rarely listen for lack of time. Given his age and NYC lineage, his accounts of his youth hit me as hilarious and true!

He’s an insufferable prick endlessly pimping his books, denigrating decent people, rude to callers, abrasive, abusive, insulting, boastful, pompous etc. He’s still an obnoxious New Yorker at heart..the kind that ruined California where he resides. Still in all, he is generally on the right side of issues and can be amusing so yes I frequently listen to him...until I can’t take it anymore.
