I live in Utah and I do this all the time. The last thing I need is a vehicle that I can’t work on.

I’ll tell you my experience with an Escalade: I took a business trip with my vice president and he rented an Escalade. On the freeway, it was the most gutless pig I’d ever been in. Big vehicle, big V-8, where’s the freakin’ power?! Horrible. My VP took it back to the rental place and changed it out for a Ford Escape with the words, “Get this piece of crap out of here.”

It takes concerted effort to make a big V-8 that gutless. That’s a vehicle that was solely designed to look cool as you’re cruising around the hood at 20 MPH. People are spending $80,000 on this base and over $100K with the bling package? I’d get more satisfaction from a Toyota Corolla.

What’s your point? I don’t need to rent a golf cart and attempt to drive it to Vegas to know that that’s a really stupid idea.

And when you stop to charge, you’ll be there for like 10 hours. Call me crazy, I like the 10-minute fuel stops that I do now. And that 10 minutes includes using the bathroom and buying a cold drink. I live in Utah and I do 400 mile road-trips often, too. In an electric car? Gotta be crazy.

FBI probe of Tesla intensifies

Shares of Tesla (TSLA +1.6%) are in reverse after The Wall Street Journal reports that FBI agents are probing the company over potential misstatements on Model 3 production information.

Sources indicate that the agents are probing the company over statements going back as far as the early part of 2017.

Tesla disclosed last month that the DOJ was asking for information.

Reporting by the WSJ indicates that former Tesla employees have been contacted in the case.

Update from Tesla: “We have not received a subpoena, a request for testimony, or any other formal process, and there have been no additional document requests about this from the Department of Justice for months.”

Most of my drives to visit relatives are on the order of 400 miles. I ain’t stopping at the truck stop to charge the batteries to get to grandma’s house for Thanksgiving.

So, what do you drive to grandma's (I'm assuming no stops, at least none required by your vehicle)?

More likely, in two years, everyone who wants a Tesla will have one. Then what? Share price crash.

That's a static analysis. You assume demand (and price) for Tesla is constant, independent of the number on the road, until everybody who (currently) wants one has one.

But the fact is, more Teslas on the road will lead either to more people wanting Teslas or to fewer.

Which it is will depend on whether Teslas are truly good cars.

If they are good cars, more people will want them, and the company on the learning curve will reduce the price, causing still more people to want the car, causing demand to soar. On the other hand, if the cars don't work out, word will get around fast, and demand will crash.

Nutty as he his, Elon lands rockets ass first, so that they can be reused. I'm not so sure I'd bet against him.

What’s funny is that I can drive from Salt Lake City to Vegas in 6 hours, probably more like 7 including bathroom breaks and food. For the Tesla, that trip is an overnighter

Tesla has 3 or 4 supercharging stations along I15. Assuming there is no wait at the stations, it would be about a hour to recharge total. It is likely there would be 1 big recharge and possibly a splash and go under ideal conditions. One of the problems with a Tesla is sightseeing off the beaten track. You have to reserve enough charge to get back to a supercharger if on a day trip.

Either a Ford F-150 Super Crew or a Suburban. I have four large kids although most have left the nest.
