I cannot even bring myself to pray for them anymore.

You have no obligation to understand them, any more than you have an obligation to understand evil.
Sometimes we must forebear them until their cup of iniquity is full.
“I guess I will start praying for myself and my inability to understand them”
Perhaps sometimes evil has no further explanation.
Jesus still insisted on loving and praying for enemies, to even feed them if hungry, to “heap coals of fire on their heads” in so doing.
Remember that the more you see of such people, the closer the end of this age is.
