Concerning Klemmer, there was the daughter of a movie producer with whom I had a friendship. We used to sit around, smoke pot relax and listen to the "Touch" album.

She was a gifted writer but totally impractical, going out of her way to tick off people who could help her get published or produced. After a nasty back injury that kept her in tremendous pain, she swallowed a bottle of pills and killed herself. The song brings back a lot of memories, but different form yours, I'm sure.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

MELODY FOR TWO: ”SEPTEMBER IN THE RAIN”

Peggy’s decade was the 1950s, but this captures her during her Big Band days during the war. Here she handles it with simplicity, a smoky small jazz club arrangement.
