U.S. Rep. John Katko holds a 14 percentage-point lead over Dana Balter heading into the final days of their campaign for Congress, according to a new poll made public Sunday.

Katko, R-Camillus, leads Balter, a Syracuse Democrat, 53-39 percent among likely voters, according to the Syracuse.com/Spectrum News/Siena College poll. About 8 percent of voters are undecided ahead of the Nov. 6 election.

The poll showed that despite almost $8 million in spending by both sides to win votes, there's been no significant change among voters since late August. The same poll showed Katko leading 54-39 percent two months ago in the 24th Congressional District.

For 10 years NY24 was the most electorally volatile district in the US. It went R (barely) in 2006, D in 2008, R (again barely) in 2010, D in 2012 and R in 2014. In 2016 Republican John Katko won a second term. In a true Blue Wave this district would be a D pickup or at least be in play. Yet Katko continues to maintain a comfortable lead, despite heavy D spending. True, Balter is a weak candidate. But still...

Good insights. Thanks.

NY24 was my Dad’s voting district for a year when I was a kid and we lived east of Syracuse. How I remember him railing against NYC bleeding upstate dry!

I should note that prior to the 2012 re-districting this was NY25. District lines remain pretty much the same.

Is this one of the “flips” the Dems were counting on?

This is a seat that seems to flip back and forth. I get mailers from Katko multiple times a week. Balter has sent people door to door in my neighborhood twice in the last week or so. Balter has also done wide multimedia campaign. The ads even showed up on YouTube videos. They both seem to be working harder than usual this year.

Katko is not my favorite congressman but he is the guy getting my vote this year. I will hold my nose again like in many NY elections. It would be nice to actually have someone I can actually for sometime rather than against the other party. That’s NY politics for you. Especially outside NYC.

VOTE!

Screw the stupid polls…

The only poll that MATTERS are the votes counted on election day.

Regardless of how far ahead your R candidate “polls” may be, get out and VOTE like the race is two points behind…

The GOP should not just win… The left-wingers need to suffer a CRUSHING DEMORILIZING defeat…

I want to see the un-American left-wingers crying even worse than they did when Trump won!

VOTE!
