Road Trip: Naval Support Activity Mid-South, Tennessee

nasmidsouth2

Naval Support Activity Mid-South (NSA Mid-South, NAVSUPPACT Mid-South, NSAMS), in Millington, Tennessee, is a base of the United States Navy. A part of the Navy Region Southeast and the Navy Installations Command, NSA Mid-South serves as the Navy’s Human Resources Center of Excellence.

The base is host to several commands and other military tenants: Navy Personnel Command, Navy Recruiting Command, the Navy Manpower Analysis Center, a Marine reserve Company - Bridge Company C (6th ESB, 4th MLG) and the US Army Corps of Engineers Finance Center. More than 7,500 military, civilian, and contract personnel are assigned/work on base.

nasmidsouth5

Initially established as Park Field, it was one of thirty-two Air Service training camps established after the United States entry into World War I in April 1917.

The Naval Support Activity has over 7,500 enlisted and officer personnel, civilians, and full-time contract personnel, who provide all essential logistic and operational support to the commands and activities on board. As the base has evolved and changed, so has its impact on the area. It plays an important part in the community and is one of the largest single employers in the state of Tennessee.

The base continues the goal to become the Navy’s premiere support installation by striving to maintain excellence in our facilities and services.  The efforts and accomplishments of the NSA Mid-South team have been recognized and rewarded the past several years by repeatedly earning both the Governor of Tennessee’s Quality Commitment Award and the Greater Memphis Association for Quality Leadership Award.

1950’s - there was a Naval Air Station at Millington. (The field is still there.) Maritime Patrol aircraft (the P-2 Neptune) was stationed there ...in the 1950’s. [A long distance to the ocean...Millington was probably a ‘shore duty station’ - and maritime patrol aircraft being ‘deployed’ would then relocate to an air station much closer to the areas that they would patrol.

My Dad was an enlisted Aviation Electronics Tech - and was stationed there - twice - for a total of 6 years in the 1950’s - and 3 of his 5 children were born there while he was stationed there.

In the 1990’s - after various BRACs...the Naval Air Station wasn’t there (don’t know when it was dis-established) - but the Bureau of Naval Personnel (BUPERS) was moved there - lock-stock and barrel. All the personnel records - there. AND - all the selection boards (including promotion boards, etc.) are held at MSA Mid-South, Millington. In the late 1990’s and early 2000’s - I sat on several promotion and selection boards for Naval Reserve officers.

I’m still watching it. It streamed “live” when Bull came on TV so I waited to watch the replay instead. He’s at Fissure 24 so it’s almost over now. Pretty fantastic, indeed!

Yeah, getting 5 done at once is a hard hit. It hurt when we had Pixie’s 4 girlies spayed last year.
But in the long run, you come out to the good because there won’t be MORE kittens born.

Good evening, radu...it was dicey coming home, but the worst was in my own neighborhood. I slid partially thru the first stop sign and I was barely moving. Then I just sat at the second til I was sure the guy coming from the right would stop....he couldn’t.

Shoveled about 4” off the deck. Then noticed my rain gauge had 4” of snow in it. LOL! Maybe time to bring it in.

I found the live stream, but it was flickering between the day and night light and hard to see the owliets.

So glad that Bella is better! All that dust from harveting and then the cooler weather must have done a job on her little lungs.

No. More. Kitties! LOL! I guess I’ll try to trap Coal in the next day or so. Just wish I had gotten her last week, too. But it’ll soon be over. Whew!

They are little cuties. She might be wondering where the heck they came from since they aren’t hers. LOL! She does seem to have accepted them, though, thank goodness!

It’s daylight and has been for about an hour. Poor Lady isn’t getting much sleep because one of the kiddos keeps popping out to see what’s going on.

The dust from harvest set poor Bella off. It’s given Hubby and me grief, too, but with runny noses. Buy stock in Kleenex! We’ll make ya rich! LOL

It’s a shame you couldn’t get Coal and Midnight to the vet together. Less traumatic when they have a buddy. I hope Coal’s cooperative when you decide it’s time for her to go.

How’s Grey’s ear tonight? Doe it seem like the antibiotic is working?

Oh my goodness...not hers?? Glad she has accepted them. Did she sit on the eggs? Or did she get them already hatched?

I just started using it today so haven’t seen any less reddening yet. It seemed fine till I was petting her this morning.

I wish I could have gotten them done at the same time, too. Less trauma for them AND for me. LOL! She’s a pretty friendly little girl and I hope it won’t be to hard to persuade her into the carrier. I might give it a try tomorrow morning.

Ah. I thought you started using it yesterday. I do hope it will clear up the infection.
It probably itched and she knocked the scab off when she scratched it.

Hey, at least you got Midnight in easily enough. You got lucky there. He’s the one you were worried about catching.
I hope you’re able to get Coal in the carrier tomorrow so this will all be behind you at last.

Glad you were able to get home in one piece! Sounds like it was an “adventurous” drive. LOL

Yes, it just might be time to get the rain gauge in. Don’t think you’ll need it for a while .... unless you end up with another of those warmish winters.

We’re riding the roller coaster down here. 50 or so on Sat., 75 yesterday, 65 today, tomorrow is supposed to be 75 again, then temps drop again and we’ll have 50s for the weekend. They say we’ll have storms here Thurs. morning as the front comes through. I don’t mind that if we get some lightning to admire. :-)

Aren’t they the cutest lil things? Owlets are quite entertaining to watch as they grow up. Lots of personality.

Poor Lady had brooded her three non-viable eggs for well past the time they should have hatched. We were sad for her. Then the two orphans were brought in for her to raise and she’s been a happy lil momma. She’s very doting.
