PITTSBURGH -- Jewish doctors and nurses at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh put their personal feelings aside to help save the life of the man who allegedly claimed he wanted to kill all the Jews as he opened fire at a synagogue and murdered 11 worshipers.
Robert Bowers, 46, was shot multiple times himself and taken to AGH. In addition to killing eight men and three women, he wounded six other people, including four police officers, before surrendering Saturday.
He was taken to my hospital and hes shouting, I want to kill all the Jews, Dr. Jeffrey Cohen, president of Allegheny General Hospital and a member of the Tree of Life Synagogue, told ABC. The first three people who took care of him were Jewish.
Another nurse, whose father is a rabbi, came in from a mass casualty drill and took care of this gentleman.
Cohen was one of the first people on the scene. He lives in the neighborhood and heard gunfire from his house.
I was standing there and you could start hearing very quickly what was going on, he said.
Just like the first responders who rushed into danger, Cohen credits his doctors, nurses and staff for stepping up.

Israel does the same thing with the Arabs. And people still hate them.
This shouldn’t be news. it’s what doctors are supposed to do.
or don’t take the oath.
Cake icing would be if he needed blood and the doctor’s provided that too then told him.
Too bad he wasn’t done in on the scene.
Just tell yourself, keep him alive as a relic of hatred, to show others, to be that example of hell. Save him so that he might receive earthly justice for his evil crimes. I admit it would be hard to tend to such a patient.
No, its news because it is interesting morally. It must be damn hard to treat a patient who just killed helpless elderly members of your congregation, because they were your religion. When only 2 generations ago there was a worldwide genocide against you.
Of course its their oath. But this is the straining of ones own heart against the oath, and how you put yourself through it; see my previous - what I would have to tell myself.
Damned it, doctors. Why couldn’t I have heard a little “Oops” in the surgery room?
You’re fixing him up so he can face justice.
They are so much better than me.
You are right. Very few people appreciate the humanity and concern Israelis have shown over the years to their neighbors who hate them. Jews are among the most decent people on the planet.
Save him and let him face justice.
I love ya, man. But that was a crass thing to say at this time.
The Jewish doctors are stronger and better people than I could be under the circumstances... very honorable.
But the monster still needs to be put to death... legally is best... it would just be hard emotionally to same him.
I am trying to change that so thank you for pointing it out.
To me it seems like a statement trying to prove something that doesn’t need to be proven.
Jewish people are good people.
As if there was a chance Jewish medical personnel WOULDN’T take care of him!
You have to admit, THAT would be news.
Jews were the victims. Not the perpetrators. They’ve nothing to prove.
I would be offended if someone killed Catholics and it had to be pointed out that a Catholic surgeon did his best with the shooter.
But you know i’m a nutjob :)
Maybe i’m seeing it all wrong and THERE IS so much antisemitism out there that this actually needs to be said.
In which case it is a sad state of affairs.
I knew you didn’t intend it the way it may have sounded, FRiend. I agree, Jewish physicians are renowed for their medical ethics, especially in Israel where they treat Arabs without stinting.
I apologize.
I’m turning over a new leaf so please let me know when my posts have a whiff of the old me!
THAT is newsworthy!! People who EVERY DAY are trying to exterminate you and that is their SOLE reason for being!!
But you’re right. Even some sick nut lone wolf, if he killed a bunch of Catholics or Italians BECAUSE they were Catholics or Italians, I would hope I could rise above that if I were the surgeon.
OK. Make sure it's a basil leaf!
lol
Those go into dinners :)
