Wait. I thought we were supposed to have an Antifa/ISIS like attitude towards our Civil War heroes and tear down and destroy every last statue and reminder of our racist past.

I understand that the black soldiers fought well. So well that the confederates often murdered them — and their white officers — when they were taken prisoner.

Murdering soldiers you capture usually doesn’t work out so well. All you do is teach your enemy that surrender is a very bad idea, and you enrage them. The SS cutthroats found that out after what they did at Malmedy.

I have to admit; I am a bit shocked by this. I would have thought that a National Memorial like this would have been created long ago. Oh well, glad someone finally got around to doing it. Credit where credit is due; those men put their lives on the line above and beyond what normal men did.
FWIW, an ancestor was a white officer (brevet Maj.) in a all black artillery unit in the Army of The Tennessee. Had he been captured, he would have ended his life at the end of a rope or shot.
That would be racist.

I am thinking the President is trying to over load the news cycle. The media can only handle one big story at a time and before they can co-ordinate their talking point another story breaks.
