How one scientist convinces skeptics that faith and climate action aren't at odds

Climate science and Christian fundamentalism might not seem to go together, with a recent poll showing that only 28 percent of white evangelicals believe Earth is warming because of human activity. But Katherine Hayhoe says it's never been a problem for her.

An evangelical Christian and director of Texas Tech University's Climate Science Center in Lubbock, Hayhoe calls science and religion "two sides of the same coin." She's made it her mission to advocate for climate action without alienating people who might be unreceptive to scientific explanations for climate change because of their beliefs.

Hayhoe came to prominence in 2016, when she hosted a televised discussion about climate change with President Obama and actor/climate activist Leonardo DiCaprio. More recently, she was profiled in "Let Science Speak," a new six-part documentary that can be viewed on YouTube and on the project's website.

Science uses the scientific method.

Climate “science” uses computer models.

Computer models do not use the scientific method.

Any questions?

They really think that religious people are simpletons who utilize faith as a way to cope with things that beyond their comprehension don’t they? ... LOL

I wonder if she knows that all her efforts are in vain for this heaven and earth will pass away and be replaced with a new one. Rev 21:1

OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

Intelligent people, including intelligent Christians, know that the likelihood of human civilization being able to do anything to alter whatever climate trends that might now being occurring is basically zero.

Article starts off with ridiculous assumption that conservative evangelical Christians don’t believe in climate change....first off, the data collection has changed, and the trends may be not as great as thought, second, movement one way doesn’t mean there is no asymptote, thirdly, wont increased c02 in atmosphere mean more vegetation which reduces c02 in atmosphere and increases 02.(which will cool of the planet?) Fourthly, earth if moving away from the sun at present(from what I have read), won’t we need more global warming soon? Fifthly, climate change might be cyclical, sixthly, sunspots of global warming and cooling are related...
So please cut the global agenda, and concentrate on consistent data acquisition.. Please factor in sun activity, cloud cover, etc....to see if climate change has limits...finally, whatever happened to global cooling...(i.e. nuclear winter)? etc...
Rant/off.

I worked in a very DEM city and a very DEM big employer. I have quite a few DEM coworkers. They are very kind, not mean at all to me. They know I am a conservative. Anyways today, the one gal and I were talking about kids these days vs. how we were raised. This gal was a Republican until Reagan. She become a Dem due to Union issues among other things.

She says to me with a straight face, you know our kids will be eating insects by 2020 due to climate change. I burst out laughing and had to walk away.

I am retiring at end of this year but I do want to call her or visit her at work in 2020 and see if she and kids and grandkids are eating insects.
