He was taken in by a Hungarian collaborator with the Nazis, who protected him knowing he came from a Jewish family. The Hungarian pretended to be Soros’ godfather and Soros played the part. To be fair I don’t believe all the claims - Soros was between the age of 9-14 during this time. He did do some work with the Hungarian collaborator, I don’t believe he was a KAPO because that implies he was openly Jewish. He was pretending to be a Christian and did some chores and work for the Hungarian collaborator, including taking inventory of items confiscated from Jews.
The word KAPO is the strongest term of derision and disgust one Jew can use against another Jew. Soros was a “KAPO” (religious traitor) and he wrote that he was happy doing the collection work for the Germans.

You are right to ask about his age, which I think was around 12 when he did the collecting, so that would be a mitigating factor in any “collaboration”.
However, his actions since parallel those of another Jewish businessman and leftist (possibly a Communist Party USA member), Samuel Rubin, once the chairman of Fabrege’ perfumes, father of Hanoi asset Cora Weiss, blockade runner of good for the communists/Nationalists in the Spanish Civil War, and funder of key Marxist organizations in the US including the Institute for Policy Studies.
Rubin, too, set up a Jewish philanthropic foundation that funded the arts/culture, education, etc., AT FIRST, before he turned to the Marxist Left with his millions of dollars, helping to set up and fund IPS, among other groups.
Soros’ actions parallel Rubin’s in too many aspects to be coincidental. They both showed a pattern of, at first, being Jewish, then helping the “anti-fascists” as in Spain or helping the Germans in Hungary.
Then came their religious/educational philanthropic projects, and finally came the communist/Marxist phase of their financial lives.
This would make a fascinating historical and psychological study of two rich Jewish men who eventually turned against their heritage by going over to the darkside of Marxism, while using capitalism to accomplish their subversion.
