I was a newbie back then...
I think you may have been one of the first people I talked to on FR. If I have never said so before, I will say it now and again: “Thank you.”
“I was a newbie back then... “
Everyone was a newbie back then.
It was the Great Awakening.
Do you ever see or hear from Angelwood?
That's probably why we didn't meet back then, but we did at other FR functions - thinking the Leadership Institute in Vegas or a maybe a CPAC. Yes, the entire event was created and organized out of Southern California with others in DC. Guess it was the the first FR chapter, but not sure.
Once Jim Robinson said he was going to DC to protest Clinton, a few got together in one single meeting and organized the event via e-mail and phone calls.
I was a Lurker then, not yet a FReeper.
Went to the March, met a huge group of like-minded Conservatives, who were in WDC on their own nickle, and the rest is history!
Became a FReeper 2 days later - I have no idea why I waited so long!
And, the Washington, DC Chapter of FRee Republic became my family until I left DC in Feb 2004 to look after my late mother here in Jacksonville.
Great people! Great times! Great FReeps!
Kristinn, you should write a book about that era!
Is this something you would be interested in? Please advise here and/or contact JimRob directly. If you're not interested or unavailable, please suggest other Freepers who have the knowledge and details of the history of FR.
I don't have your historical knowledge regarding all the FR events that have occurred. However, I'm willing to do grunt research, initial financing, negotiate with potential publishers. Also, I can contribute to the narrative with the writer[s].
As we both know, JimRob created a historical web-based conservative forum for those lost in the abyss of the ever-growing liberal/socialist dystopia.
It's time that story be told. If written well, it could possibly change some minds. If nothing else, FR has been a big part of recent conservative history and should be immortalized.
Also, JimRob's and FR's story is one of over-coming encroaching liberal censorship and creating an idea that morphed into a movement that gave a new voice to our Founding Fathers' ideals, ethics, traditions, morality. It renewed the faith and gave a platform for the forgotten men and women who hold those virtues dear. It still does.
Please respond to this message. JimRob needs you once again.
Best.
