I forgot to add that going outside puts you in legal jeopardy in some states. The courts will take the position that as long as the bad guy is outside he is not a lethal danger to you and therefore you can not shoot him. That varies according to the law in your state and also according to the prosecutor in charge of the case.
In this state, cases have gone both ways even though this state is clear on the point that you can not shoot a person who is not an immediate deadly threat.
