Stephen Bannon v. David Frum Spar Over Populism At Munk Debates Tonight

Munk Debates: Stephen Bannon and David Frum, set to spar on the future of western politics, speak to The Globe on their views

At Friday’s Munk debate in Toronto, Stephen Bannon, former strategist for U.S. President Donald Trump, and David Frum, a senior editor at The Atlantic magazine, will debate the following resolution: Be it resolved, the future of western politics is populist, not liberal. The Globe interviewed both debaters on their views.

Politics is undergoing a sea change. Long-held notions of the role of government are being challenged by populist thinkers and movements. Does this populist agenda signal a permanent shift in our politics or is it a passing phenomenon?

Saying a prayer today for Bannon. David Frum is the evil BushieRINO "stepfather in the Uniparty brotherhood of RINOs" of Ben Shapiro... Frum also FAMOUSLY hated Andrew Breitbart and they would engage in social media sparring before Breitbart died.

I watched another Munk Debate last night... interesting forum.

Also, since they are bound to protest Bannon, here is my prayer: Lord Jesus, bless and protect all people going to these debates tonight and we ask that You quell hatred and violence and fear so that the truth of what these men believe might be unveiled for all Westerners to see. Amen

The CTV television network covered a fairly large crowd of protesters. They are of the left liberal variety. They wanted the debate banned. They showed placards and there was the words "Stop Fascists". To CTV's credit their reporter questioned the leading spokeswoman called Maya. A young lady of a visible minority.

She was asked pointedly a number of times about the value of free speech. Again asked if it was not better for people to hear both sides. The young woman repeated the oft known reasons for banning any debate. Simply that one crushes any view one does not like. Only allow it if it agrees with some politically correct mantra.

I only saw how a protestor was handled inside the debate hall.

LOL Bannon “won” the most converts about populism even though Bannon was somehow caught off guard by Frum’s RINOism (i.e. liberalism and Trump hatred).

Bannon won because he has the facts... but since Frum got so many good shots in, it’s a wonder.

Personally, Bannon needs to figure out what he really believes about Christ. Once he does that, I think he will be able to see what ideology the brotherhood of the Uniparty RINOs like Frum really believe. David Frum has exhibited more hatred towards the deplorables/Tea Party than most RINOs over the years (including a spit in your face hatred of Andrew Breitbart when he was alive) and Bannon can’t see what really motivates people like Frum.

I really don’t understand it. Lame Duck George Bush helped candidate Obama during the 2008 economic meltdown that Bannon understands so well. Bannon should understand that, but it’s like he’s spiritually blinded to the fact that RINOs are more “evil” than Dems because they lie about their true liberalism.

LOL again though... Bannon won the debate and even the debate moderator couldn’t believe it. Liberal Unipartiers like Frum just don’t make any sense.

Frum is cut from the same cloth as Karl Rove and other pro-abort RINO liars. Bannon lost points and his bearings in this debate because he wasn’t expecting it... though he recovered well on the question of George Soros.

I don’t get it. The RINOs have been the enemy of conservatives/Bannon since before Palin and Tucson. Why is Bannon in anywise impressed with Frum? (There was a certain amount of glad-handing after the scores were announced and their banter was caught on mic as they walked backstage.)

Frum’s books are unreadable drek — sorry, Steve.

I have read your carefully worded reply and felt impelled to follow events on Canadian television. The outbreaks of some violence and six arrests noted. Also the usual suspect, a screaming woman inside the debate venue. I need more study before I conclude the outcome of the debate.

I had tried to understand the RINO phenomenon. The nearest thing in Ontario is the "Red Tory". The definition is "a conservative politician, while maintaining some conservative principles, supports many Liberal and Socialist policies".

I can only think that it is the politically correct spectre, that makes politicians want to be liked. Perhaps it is part of the human condition. The hard lesson they do not seem to learn is this.

Try to please everybody and it leads to pleasing nobody.
