A HUMBLE SPIRIT
It's always surprising to me when someone, in an honest and unguarded moment, confides that God could never use THEM. They may keep up appearances most of the time, but, down deep, they just don't feel worthy. Have you ever felt that way? If so, you're in luck; God places a high value on humility! In fact, your sincere recognition of your own need may just be the key that opens the door to a deeper, more genuine and rewarding spirituality. Isaiah wrote, "For thus says the High and Holy One Who inhabits eternity, whose name IS Holy: 'I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a humble and contrite spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the spirit of the contrite.'" (57:15) And Jesus added, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:3)
For a short history lesson to reinforce those references, consider the following words by another pilgrim who found a second chance: "There are many reasons why God shouldn't have called you. But don't worry. You're in good company: Moses stuttered. David's armor didn't fit. John Mark was rejected by Paul. Timothy had ulcers. Hosea's wife was a prostitute. Amos' only training was in the school of fig-tree pruning. Jacob was a liar. David had an affair. Solomon was too rich. Abraham was too old. David was too young. Peter was afraid of death. Lazarus was dead. John was self-righteous. Naomi was a widow. Paul was a murderer. So was Moses. Jonah ran from God. Miriam was a gossip. Gideon and Thomas both doubted. Jeremiah was depressed and suicidal. Elijah was burned out. John the Baptist was a loudmouth. Martha was a worry-wart. Mary was lazy. Samson had long hair. Noah got drunk. "Did I mention that Moses had a short fuse? So did Peter, Paul -- well, lots of folks did. "But God doesn't require a job interview. He doesn't hire and fire like most bosses because He's more our Father than our Boss. He doesn't look at financial gain or loss. He's not prejudiced or partial, not judging, grudging, sassy, or brassy, not deaf to our cry, not blind to our need. As much as we try, God's gifts are free. We could do wonderful things for wonderful people and still not be wonderful. Satan says, "You're not worthy." Jesus says, "So what? I AM." Satan looks back and sees our mistakes. God looks back and sees the cross. He doesn't calculate what you did in '78. It's not even on the record. Sure. There are lots of reasons why God shouldn't have called us. But if we are magically in love with Him, if we hunger for Him more than our next breath, He'll use us in spite of who we are, where we've been, or what we look like. I pray that, as believers, we will step out of our limitations into the unlimited nature of who God is. Then our passion for God and our passion to communicate Him will make short work of our limitations." No matter where you are in your journey today, or how you may have failed in the past, God loves you... and sees what may yet be. May you find hope, grace, a renewed vision, and treasures that don't disappoint.

Howdy! It was a good day! The kitties are all good. Grey didn’t show up this morning, but she was back tonight. Her ear does seem better. Kind of hard to see at twilight. I’ll get a better look in the morning.
Bet you’re glad that sale is over with. LOL. You have your sleep time back! Yay!

Multiple errands went like clockwork this morning. Wasn’t sure what the day would bring as yesterday evening and night was feeling really icky. Driven to early bed with a fierce headache, but all seems to be well today.
Got a little homework done and tomorrow is hopefully all paperwork. Such fun. LOL!

LOL! I’m still awake - barely - but not standing very much. It’s been a long four days and the ol’ bum back is complainin’ loudly tonight. Moving all the large tables back where they belong and loading up the few things left over after the sale to take to Goodwill got it good.
But the sale was a huge success.
I behaved this year and didn’t spend much money. I came home with two microwave dishes that I’ll get a lot of use out of and two fabric-covered doggy steps for the kittehs to sleep on .... for a grand total of a dollar. LOL! Those steps are the best 50 cents I’ve spent in a long time. They’re constantly occupied and that keeps the cats away from the desk chair. I can get up without falling over someone. :-)
Right now I’m LMBO. I got a little bottle of catnip spray yesterday and have sprayed a few cats’ tails. Now they’re running away from the others who smell it. LOL

It might be “dull” but it’s YOURS! I like my dull routine, too. I was born to be lazy. :)

Glad you’re feeling better today! The headache was probably from being so worn out from the long week you had.
The plus to doing paperwork tomorrow is you won’t have to go outside into the cold. It’s pretty nippy up there. brrrrr

It’s not so much a lazy routine. Plenty to do around here. But I can move at my own pace and that’s what I look forward to.
It kinda sucked that I wasn’t able to go to the museum today. It was a nice day and there were probably a lot of folks popping in. Only two more weekends to go before it closes for the winter. *sigh*

There’s a spiritually practical side to a humble spirit, and that’s allowing oneself to be a team player rather than puffing up as a prima donna.
No Christian is a one man band. To the extent that any try, and I am one who can tell that story of viewing Jesus in a fleshly manner, it’s an invitation to an overwhelming faceful of Satan. Will that torpedo his everlasting salvation? No. The scripture says so. But it will compromise his earthly ministry because there are too few to bear the load effectively. This can have fearful consequences for those who step up vigorously but don’t have a full enough picture about what it takes to keep it up. Even St. Paul begged those he wrote to for prayers to back his unique ministry. An essential factor in why we have these great parts of the New Testament today is that thousands and thousands of other Christians prayed.

Well, that’s a good plan and I follow something like it. I try to pace myself, in other words. LOL!
I’ll bet you DID miss the museum today. Hope they were busy so more people will know about this hidden gem. You’ll still be going after they close, right? To do some more work?

Still the King
November 4, 2018
Rise up, O God, and defend your cause.
Psalm 74:22
One news report called it the single deadliest day for Christians in decades. The pair of attacks on Sunday worshipers in April 2017 defies our understanding. We simply dont have a category to describe bloodshed in a house of worship. But we can find some help from others who know this kind of pain well.
Most of the people of Jerusalem were in exile or had been slain when Asaph wrote Psalm 74. Pouring out his hearts anguish, he described the destruction of the temple at the hands of ruthless invaders. Your foes roared in the place where you met with us, Asaph said (v. 4). They burned your sanctuary to the ground; they defiled the dwelling place of your Name (v. 7).
Yet the psalmist found a place to stand despite the awful realityproviding encouragement that we can do so too. But God is my King from long ago, Asaph resolved. He brings salvation on the earth (v. 12). This truth enabled Asaph to praise Gods mighty power even though His salvation seemed absent in the moment. Have regard for your covenant, Asaph prayed. Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name (vv. 2021).
When justice and mercy seem absent, Gods love and power are in no way diminished. With Asaph, we can confidently say, But God is my King.
Lord, with the psalmist we pray for the honor of Your Name
. Show Yourself strong and compassionate. Rise up and defend Your cause.
God will defend His Name.
As the author of Psalm 74, Asaph helped Israel mourn the destruction of their temple by the Babylonians in 586 bc. Little did he know that someday his song would find an echo in an even more confusing loss. According to the New Testament, a greater temple of God (John 2:2021) was nailed to a tree. This time, God Himself bore the loss. Where are we in the story?
