“Eating their feelings?” Never heard of it. Is this some kind of Northeasterner expression like “getting jammed up?” Sometimes the media is an alien culture to those of us in Flyover Country.

Dennis Prager notes that it is hard to draw a distinction between unhappiness and ingratitude. It would seem to follow that if to be a “liberal” is to be ungrateful, to be a liberal is, hence, to be unhappy.
