How President Trump has Supported the Second Amendment
Ammoland ^ | 1 November, 2018 | Dean Weingarten

President Donald Trump is the most vocal supporter of the Second Amendment to the Constitution that has ever inhabited the White House.

Before 1934, there were few restrictions on firearm purchases and virtually none at the federal level. It is not surprising that before 1934, presidents said little about the Second Amendment.

Franklin  Delano Roosevelt was blatantly anti-Second Amendment. He showed it with his court picks and the attempt to register and license all handguns in the United States. While the attempt failed, the first serious federal gun law, the National Firearms Act, was passed as a compromise.

Only President Trump has given serious support to the Second Amendment in the 85 years since. Most have tended to be neutral; Democrats became eager to impose more infringements in the 1960's when the entire party was radicalized. President Reagan was supportive, but not as much as President Trump.

What has President Trump done to restore the Second Amendment?

The most obvious, long lasting and consequential actions are President Trump's pick of originalist and textualist Supreme Court justices,  Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

These two justices mean the infringements of Second Amendment rights winked at by the Supreme Court in the last three years, will probably be stopped and rolled back.  The Supreme Court will probably validate the right to bear arms outside the home, not just to be able to carry a pistol from the kitchen to the bedroom. It is likely the Supreme Court will hold the Second Amendment protects ammunition sales and the private sale of firearms

President Trump is fulfilling his Second Amendment Promises.

First, he had to re-shape the Republican Party.

President Trump realises all too well that the Second Amendment is the foundation stone upon which all our freedoms ultimately rest.

Constitutions are like the walls of a city: useless unless they are defended. And what city was ever secured by unarmed defenders?

FDR was a terrible president; socialist to the core, a lover of big government (the bigger the better), he was tyrannical in his actions and arrogant beyond measure.

Trump has done more in 2 years than the Bushes had promised and failed to do for us in 30 years.

God Bless President Trump.

“He can never be forgiven for turning away the St. Louis.”

No kidding. That was shameful, as his refusal to allow them entry resulted in their actual murders.

Groundwork maybe, but no real movement.

At least Obama got conned into allowing national park carry.

We need a lot more support for ensuring our Constitutional rights are protected. Anti-gun States are allowed to run roughshod over our rights. The President and Congress must pass legislation that:

- makes it illegal for states to pass unconstitutional magazine, ammunition, and gun bans

- pass National Reciprocity that ensures people’s right to concealed carry, especially in anti-gun states

There are always people on this forum who like to post that the above protections are unnecessary, because we “have “ the 2nd Amendment. Well, good luck with that argument if you are arrested for “possessing” a “high capacity” magazine or you carry in a state that does not care about your rights. You will be financially ruined, lose your job, be convicted, and tossed into prison. It can and has happened.

Yes, it has.

There are several intermediate steps that can be made in that direction.

If we hold the House, I expect some movement, not that President Trump seems to have transplanted some spine, and injected some testosterone into the GOP.

Here’s how Trump has infringed the 2nd amendment: bump stock ban. Its unconstitutional on its face. In fact, so is the 1934 Federal firearms act, and the 1968 pile-on, and every single federal infringement on the right to keep and bear Rms.

The bump stock regulation has not even been enacted yet.
