Overall I think the Democrats had the better showing. The GOP mostly won back some weakly held seats that the Dems got hold of on Obama’s coattails. The GOP needs to be thankful the entire map of 100 Senate seats wasn’t up for grabs.
The Rick Scott pick-up was impressive, but he was a very strong candidate, a 2-term governor who probably could’ve won a 3rd term there. Overall it looks like the GOP candidate recruitment was weak. And those rust belt states that Trump flipped switched back to standard blue states again.
