Lauren Underwood has won the 14th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, defeating challenger Randy Hultgren, according to returns as reported by the Associated Press.
Underwood is a registered nurse and health policy expert. Her top causes as a candidate are access to quality health care for all Americans, the presence of high-paying jobs and a strong local economy, and maintaining the safety and security of northern Illinois families. Hultgren has been the 14th District congressman since 2011.
Underwood was endorsed by former President Barack Obama and supported by a Democratic super PAC. The flipping of the 14th Congressional district is key to the Democrats controlling the U.S. House of Representatives.

Underwood, a nursing school graduate, who never worked as a nurse. ran phony commercials (allegedly shot in a dental office) posing as an actual nurse working with impoverished patients with preexisting conditions in need of Obamacare. She ran circles around the lethargic Hultgren.
Hultgren ought to be charged with political malpractice.
Roskam got whacked also...they both thought they were safe and they should have been.
And she was a very beatable candidate. She said more dumb things in media statements than Ocasio-Cortez and Hultgren rarely released statements saying how unqualified and ill-prepared such a person is to be a U.S. rep. Probably had some campaign consultant that didn’t want to “alienate women” by attacking her. Hultgren didn’t even try. I was sad to lose Roskam, who ran as strong a campaign as he could. You get the feeling that Hultgren, though, mailed it in.
As for Roskam’s suburban district, its “safeness” could only absorb so many productive republicans moving to other states due to property tax increases for so long. They were all replaced by takers like Sean Casten and Lauren Underwood. This is the story of the entire state of Illinois in microcosm.
Oh, the “nurse”.
Hultgren slept until Friday of last week and then made a belated effort to shore up his candidacy. It failed because he did nothing for months. Underwood was a flaky candidate, but lazybones let her define the issues and make off the wall comments without pushing back.
I read that Rodney Davis lost too.
Other sources called the same US House race for Davis (R) by a narrow margin.
Agree completely. I haven’t seen a bigger tank job by the incumbent since Phil Crane vs. Melissa Bean.

Crane refused to return home and campaign. He was AWOL.
The Democratic Machine from Chicago has been expanding its reach into the suburbs and collar counties.
Complacent Republicans and RINOs are dumbfounded when they actually have to face competition. A Cook County Commissioner (Schneider), who also serves as the nominal chair of the Illinois State Republican Party is going down to a humiliating defeat tonight. In Cook County most of the countywide officers ran unopposed, freeing dollars and workers to flood the suburbs. They put $$$ behind candidates in former GOP strongholds.
Zero tv ads for Hult that I saw,
Hultgren decided to go cheap since he was in a safe Republican district and he sat on his cash. By the time he realized that he was in trouble (Underwood was dominating television with constant ads), all he could do was purchase radio spots. Pathetic! His radio commercials were airing after the polling places were open for voting.
Underwood is another faker like Mel Reynolds and Obama (all types of conflated claims about her background — that went completely unchallenged until it was too late).
