President Trump only has a brief, lame duck congress ability to protect the nation from a Democrat-caused catastrophe. Here are suggestions for what he might do.

1) Maxine Waters has threatened the banking and financial industry from her position as chairman of the House Financial Services Committee. While some of the banks and financial institutions are "too big to fail", and thus "too big to continue operating at that scale", and need to be broken up, the Justice Department could quickly reach *voluntary* antitrust agreements to have an orderly break up, taking years, *in exchange for which*, during the process, they would remain under current banking and finance laws and regulations. By protecting the banking and financial institutions, President Trump would put a major roadblock up to the Democrats *causing* another great depression, while protecting our economy from a too large financial corporation collapse.

2) Similar antitrust agreements could be reached with several other over-consolidated industries to protect them as well. A similar deal might be made with the SEC in exchange for a discreet audit.

3) Next, he should immediately begin the *involuntary* break up of "big media". This needs quick congressional action to inform the SCOTUS that the court ruling that "just being big isn't enough to antitrust" is no longer in effect, so oligopolies can indeed be busted up.

4) Congress needs to quickly pass legislation to firm up the new tax law that state taxes are no longer deductible (SALT), so that the Democrats cannot sabotage it.

5) Congress needs to quickly pass judiciary reform that precludes lower level federal judges from enjoining presidential executive orders at the national level, or other extra jurisdictional decrees either. Likewise that *congress* determines the composition of the US military, not the courts.

6) Put some teeth back into the Logan Act, making it an *enforced* crime for unauthorized people to conduct or interfere with US foreign policy. "The Logan Act (1 Stat. 613, 18 U.S.C. § 953, enacted January 30, 1799) is a United States federal law that criminalizes negotiation by unauthorized persons with foreign governments having a dispute with the United States. The intent behind the Act is to prevent unauthorized negotiations from undermining the government's position." So, for example, if John Kerry decides to make a deal with Iran to undermine the president, on his return, he is arrested. The same with George Soros, a lot.

1. Pass a bill for FULL funding of the wall. None of this " 1 billion now and the rest paid out over 10 years "

2. Pass a bill clarifying that birthright citizenship under the 14th Amendment does not apply to non-resident foreigners or illegals.

Sadly, I agree with other FReepers that the do-nothings in Congress are going to continue their losing streak right into their cushy new consulting gigs.

The Dems have promised endless investigations, and they’re going to follow through on that. It’s going to be 2 years of gridlock, and the country will stagnate in that time. Everything Trump does will be under a microscope.

The biggest tragedy here is that the people responsible for abuse of power unseen in this country’s history are going to get off scott free, and they all know it now. There are Clinton and Obama acolytes who are waking up this morning and breathing easier because they know that the magnifying glass over them is going to be lifted away.

paul ryan will not allow anything to be done

He and his friends have worked hard to ensure that the house would be lost.
And Paul Ryan will be staying on until January 2019 to keep President Trump in check.

And you in the house have let him stay.

Interesting how coverage of this disgusting midterm temper tantrum masquerading as an “election” by disaffected U.S. Trump-hating voters has erased all media discussion of the continuing crisis at the southern border and the seditious and treasonous comments made by the Joint Chiefs of Staff claiming the U.S. military will not in any way be used to prevent the migrant invasion from overrunning the U.S. border. Watch for selfies of “sensitized” U.S. troops hugging the newly-arrived migrant families as they are processed for entry to the U.S.

We shouldn’t act like this Ryan-Rino led House was a benefit to Trump. He’ll do far better running against Pelosi than running with Ryan. Sit back and watch the clown show the Ds in the House are about to put on. It will guarantee a 2020 win for DJT!

Replace Sessions and Rosenstein. Then direct new AG to investigate any complaints about members of Congress. Start with the obvious conflict of interest members like Pelosi and Maxine.

Trump needs to act as if 2019 is the only thing that matters.

Trump needs to build up a defense against the Democrats going after him via impeachment, leaking his taxes, and using Mueller to dirty him up for 2020.

To do this, he should do the following:

  1. As soon as the 115th Congress adjourns sine die, Trump should fire Sessions (or accept his resignation), and fire Rosenstein.
  2. Trump should recess appoint a bulldog, a fighter, a person who doesn't want a Beltway career, and who is willing to make the tough calls the way that Sessions wouldn't. Somebody outspoken, like Jeanine Pirro who appeared on stage with Trump, might be a good choice. This appointment would expire at the end of 2019, so would be immune to Senate interference for the duration.
  3. Trump should nominate a replacement for Rosenstein through the normal Senate process. Let the Senate Republican Judiciary Committee members like Lindsey Graham have a platform to counter House Democrats investigating Trump, like Maxine Waters, Adam Schiff, and Jerry Nadler.
  4. The new Attorney General should immediately take control of the Mueller investigation, demanding an immediate briefing by Mueller, and potentially shutting down the investigation outright. Let the 55 Republicans in the Senate deal with Democrat howls of obstruction, since 2019 is going to be about all-out war with the Democrats. It's best in the short term to take this weapon off the table now.
  5. The new Attorney General can also take a harder line on illegal immigration actions to counter Democrat obstruction of border security.
  6. In 2020 when the recess appointment expires, Trump can formally nominate a permanent Attorney General and give Republicans another Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing to campaign from going into the 2020 election. Set the Democrats up for a repeat of their 2018 performance and show voters again what their choices are.

#3 is YUGE. In 2016 Conservatives were able to use social media to sway undecided voters. In 2018 Silicon Valley decided to impose censorship, and you see the results.

Millenial voters don’t listen to Rush and Levin on AM Radio. If we are to have any prayer of talking them back from the Socialist ledge we need to be able to reach them via social media.

This HAS to be atop Trump’s to-do list.
