Lightman is correct. That is completely the wrong approach. We lost the House, and the fact that millions of American (many of them middle class) got a tax RAISE was a major contributor to our defeat.
My advice to the GOP: when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging.
Congressman Rohrabacher (R-CA) and others in the House want to expand the SALT deduction from $10K to $20K. Well, errr, OK, but they should have done that last year.
It's kind of late now.
Perhaps Republican politicians have learned that their voting base does not like tax increases.
When one looks at the districts that Republicans lost, it’s the affluent suburban districts in high tax states.
Exactly as many of us predicted when the tax bill was passed.
Republican voters resent Republican politicians raising their taxes, and either changed their vote to Dem, or didn’t vote, or didn’t vote for the Republican House candidate on the ballot.
And it happened enough that Republicans lost the House.
For those here who celebrated “sticking it to the blue states”, know that YOUR support for that effort contributed to the loss of the House.
