Powerful new Democratic chairman vows to pursue cabinet officials who 'abused' their posts and investigate Trump for acting 'in his own financial self-interest'

Rep. Elijah Cummings is in line to chair the House Oversight Committee

He was one of a number of Democrats empowered by the party takeover He has pursued Trump's ownership of a DC hotel but without power Now he wants to probe cabinet officials 'across the government' Vowed to combat 'waste, fraud and abuse' Called for both sides to accept 'mandate'

A newly-empowered House Democratic committee chairman vowed on Wednesday to probe efforts by President Donald Trump for using his post to pursue what he called his own 'financial self-interest.'

Rep. Elijah Cummings of Maryland issued the warning shot at Trump and his administration Wednesday hours after Democrats sealed their takeover.

Cummings has hounded the Trump administration on issues ranging from cabinet scandals for jet use to Trump's ownership of a luxury D.C. hotel, but with little ability to force disclosure without cooperation from Republicans.

Now, blasting oversight he called 'nonexistent', he is vowing to go ahead and probe Trump's decisions to act in his own 'self-interest.'

Time to clean house at the FBI and start the investigations, while cutting the congressional budget.

We have already learned what power a congressional committee welds. None.

The pubs identified legitimate and significant crimes. Nothing became of any of it. These guys got nothing but the sound of their own voices screeching.

MAGA

The Democrats have shown Congress has no real investigating powers, you can ignore or lie to them without fear of any punishment.

Anyone called to face a house committee should just say they are busy that day, they have to wash their hair. /s

The Senate needs to investigate classified leaks from whatever source they likely originated.

The Dems are going to have to act like something out of central casting to appease their flagburning babykilling base.

No need for that out of the gate. If we have learned anything, the order of compliance with Congressional subpoenas is: ignore, delay, delay, delay, claim nothing exists, delay, delay delay, heavily redact, delay, delay, redact...this goes on for YEARS.

As long as it applies to both sides of the aisle, I have no problem with it.

But, we all know...it won't.

Listening to Beck, he said something really interesting. He said that the House has sent 100 good bills to the Senate waiting to be worked on and sent on to the President to be signed into law. He says they need to pass those bills and get them signed into law right now.

Over the next two years no good bills will be coming out of the House.

Okay, McConnell. Do the right thing.

This is pretty much an empty threat insofar as Trump wants to dump those guys anyway.

Talking about self interest. Without going into racial overtones how often has there been a minority representative who did not do all they could to benefit from their position?
