HW is the only reason Clinton was elected.
I think us Republicans fail to appreciate how unusual it was for one party to have the WH 3 straight terms. Except for 1981-1992, you'd have to go back to the 1950's to find a party being in the WH for 3 terms.
It's why I didn't expect Hillary to win in 2016.
Plus, there's the fact that Dim Jimmy Carter was in the WH 1 term (1977-1980) in the middle of 5 terms of Republicans (Nixon/Ford for 2 terms, Reagan for 2 terms, Bush Sr. for 1 term). So even without Perot, the odds of winning the WH again in 1992 was slim.
Perhaps if George HW Bush wasn't such a crappy excuse for a candidate, people would have voted for him instead of for Perot (this is also ignoring the fact that nearly half of Perot's support came from people who previously voted for Democrats). This whole "spoiler" business is just the excuse both major parties use when their dud of a candidate loses an election.
