Beto O’Rourke For President In 2020? Defeat To Ted Cruz Increases Odds Of Run Against Donald Trump
Newsweek ^ | November 6, 2018 | Jason Le Maire

Posted on 11/07/2018 8:09:00 AM PST by C19fan

Beto O’Rourke fell agonizingly short of becoming the first Democrat in a quarter of a century to win a statewide race in Texas but he may yet get a shot at an even bigger prize. O’Rourke, who was projected to lose to Republican incumbent Ted Cruz on Tuesday, had vowed that he would serve out his full six-year term in the Senate if victorious and would not run for president in 2020.

But a defeat frees him of those obligations. And given how close he got to unseating a Republican in the ruby-ed Lone Star State, he is sure to face loud calls from Democrats to run for the party’s nomination for the White House. Indeed, those cries had begun even before the results in the race were final on Tuesday.

>>>A rising star who has never held elected office?

He's been in Congress since 2012. Was elected to the El Paso City Council before that.

What a bunch of retards. So Cruz was an ass two years ago. Get over it. Trump has and Cruz is actually a very good senator.

Not true. He got over 800,000 more votes than Sadler, so far. Currently Cruz has 200,000 less votes than he got in 2012, so maybe that’s the number they’re thinking of. These vote totals are likely to go up on both sides before the final vote is certified. Overall, it seems Beto’s gains over Sadler were from mobilizing new voters while Cruz just held his ground.

If Kamala Harris is the nominee, he’d be the best demographic choice for V.P. Could be an option for Fauxcahantas or Spartacus also. You can be sure the Dem ticket will never be two white men again in our lifetimes.

That really makes a lot of sense; lose a statewide election and it propels him to the national stage.

Um, that analysis is incorrect. You have to subtract the old data from the new data to find out how much the additional votes actually cost.

$69MM - $700M = $68,535,323

3.4MM votes - 3.2MM votes = 218,332

So we now have $313.90 per vote, not just $20.29. Granted, I’m sure this is more of a logarithmic scale, but even that much per additional vote, to still lose, is ridiculous.
