I’m old enough to remember when all of New England was solid red - in fact I think an often overlooked fact is that the first woman ever elected to the US senate, in spite of the lies ‘rats like to spread, was a Republican - Margaret Chase Smith -from Maine - those were the days....
Maybe it was a bit before my time, but Vermont was once a die-hard, conservative Republican state.

Oh yes - and how could I have forgotten Edward Brooke - the first popularly-elected black Senator - from Massachusetts - a Republican - obviously I’m a racist........
