One small correction. The first female governor of Alabama was Lurleen Wallace. She was Governor 1967-1968 and was George Wallace’s wife.

She may have been Governor in name only, and did not serve a full term, but she was elected.

This is what I found when I did a search about her.

Lurleen Burns Wallace was the 46th Governor of Alabama for fifteen months from January 1967 until her death in May 1968. She was the first wife of Alabama Governor George Wallace, whom she succeeded as governor because the Alabama constitution forbade consecutive terms
