Guys, gals, girls, ladies.....dudes, men, boys......all words appropriate for talking to normal people. The question I always ask whenever reading about someone saying something that is supposedly ‘racists’, ‘sexist’ or ‘homophobic’ or....name your offense category...is “Is this person actually a ‘racist’ or did he just say something stupid?’ The answer is invariably “No!...he/she just said something stupid at that moment in time.” So, if the statement or joke or offense is truly ‘bad,’ the person who said it should be allowed to go on with his her life after an apology....no hard no foul. Most of the time, the statement doesn’t even need to be apologized for...in my opinion.
In regards to this banker....if he’s not a sexist but just uses these terms as part of who he is...then they should all talk about it and just let it go. He should not be fired. It’s how adults interact.....or used to interact.
‘Its how adults interact.....or used to interact.’
not talking adults here; talking females...
Reading the article thru, the bigger issues were that there were the patterns of verbal abuse and belittling and the denial of promotions. The guy seems to have been a jerk. I don’t think just calling them “girls” was the biggest issue that got him canned.
