Yes, federal funding or not, California never took care of their forests and trails. The fires were not caused by a lack of federal funding.
I for one believe you are correct as most often public monies are diverted from their intended purpose by the Democrats for the ultimate purpose of buying votes from whomever they believe is relevant to their cause du jour. This is what has happened to the previous gas tax money we have been, and still are charged at the pump, along with the new taxes. Doesn’t go to fix the roads. Goes to the party to buy votes, or is diverted to welfare organizations to buy votes. Ultimately such theft by the Democrats is always for buying votes.
Environmental wackos have blocked entrances to federal forest lands in CA so that the Feds can’t even get to them so they can be managed.

Most of the forest in the west are dead...pine beetle...the forest service never sprayed
California had a wet spring ...the underbrush had a lot of growth and a very hot summer...
For as long as I can remember California has had two seasons...Fire and mud. I don’t think President Trump will do anything to change that.
These fires have been happening long before Trump became president. The Sierra Clud types who insisted on eliminating timber cutting and insane state rules governing the way land owners use their private property went a long way in setting the stage for these fires.
The Federal government owns about 57 percent of the forests in California but the state law covers the rest and this is where a lot of the fires that get out of control are.

The USFS budget was cut by a real 15%. It was not an across the board cut, but Wildland Fire Management budget was preserved.
Additionally, the USFS will significantly increase timber sales. And it’s the timber companies that do the hard work of forest management. Roads, bridges, burning of slash and brush.
And building the greatest firebreaks ever devised by man: The Clear Cut.

Prior to 2000 there were 9 fires. Years 1923 thru 1999, 76 years, 9 fires.
Between 2000-2017 there has been 1 fire every year! 17 years, 17 fires. 2015 study done 2 see if global warming caused the increase.

I live in Calif and I say to the “officials” you have been squandering the money you have been given and all of a sudden you have a problem you created and you want to blame someone else??
Same thing with the actions DJT too to stop flowing water from the delta into the ocean and to the farmers in the central valley whose farms and orchards were being ruined by starving them out and denying them the water they needed to survive. Heaven forbid you cur some of the millions of dead trees into firewood or home brew timber, Californica will hammer you into the ground like a tent post. You have to let it lay there and rot. Or buy a timber harvest permit and file environmental impact statements.
