My grandfather as well.

He was awarded, among others, two Silver Stars, three Purple Hearts and also the same medal as your grandfather from France.

Unfortunately, all of his records were destroyed in the Kansas military records fire. Although I have his Flag, Medals and ribbons. I have a picture of him in his uniform though.

Sadly he died in an auto accident a few years after returning from the war.

That is terrific. My grandfather actually got two Croix de Guerres. I have one of them. Despite being an M.D., he died in 1929 from a perforated ulcer despite 8 weeks of treatment for it. They didn't have the antibiotics or other treatment for it back then. I never knew him, but I knew his father, my great grandfather, who was born in the Civil War in frontier Texas. There were Indian raids in his county when he was young, and he remembered hiding from an Indian coming past their house.
