My tagline indicates where I am on the 2nd Amendment - with no compromises.

That said (and meant), I think that our side needs to learn a LOT more about PR, so as to have a greater chance to stop lousy legislation and regulations, and then to reverse the incredible damage inflicted upon our RKBA since 1934.

That statement by the NRA was a quick, obviously not well thought-out, reaction. We need to be smarter than that. If you come up with a soundbite in a few seconds, then the other side can do the same.

We need to understand the perspective of doctors - which generally speaking (I’m not including abortion docs) consists of “let’s do what we can to reduce illness, injuries and death - that’s our job.” The clear response for our side - which, btw, ALSO wants to reduce illness, injuries and death (we’re decent humans ALSO) - is that the doctors need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture than just their ERs. The history of the 20th Century is on our side, IMHO, in that tyrannical regimes that highly regulated or outright banned firearms for ordinary citizens ended up murdering somewhere well north of 100 million people. Compared to ordinary street crime - as bad as that is - this is probably 100 times worse. We should be smart and congratulate docs for good-heartedly wanting to reduce suffering, while simultaneously letting these generally very smart people know that they don’t have a monopoly on either knowledge or reasoning abilities.

Geez, folks, we have a winning argument - why would we want to dilute or kill it off for the sake of a quick one-liner?

Thanks for noticing that.

If we believe we have the best considered view on matters social, we should use enough words to make that view plain.

There are excellent arguments for liberal self defense policies. And doctors surely can follow them once they are explained. In medical school students have to follow complex interdependencies in biology.

It sounded more like one of the old NRA "oops" reactions than the recent NRA efforts, which are generally pretty good these days.

That being said, doctors have no greater standing than anyone else in this discussion, "feelings" notwithstanding.
