To: Blue Highway

[I bought my Sportage with the 32/28 mpg as the main selling point. Actual combined is more like 25 and that’s with me hypermiling to conserve gas.]


I feel your pain. I drive a small SUV/crossover. It’s like pulling teeth to get anything over 20 mpg. On the plus side, it’s comfortable ride, handles well and has plenty of pep. But when gas prices crept up over $4 a gallon, and every fill-up came up to almost a C-note, a fuel-sipping econobox started looking better and better.

I have a 2010 Kia Optima and I do mostly highway driving. I’m very pleased with the 30 mpg it gives me.
