Congress returns to new dynamic, GOP shutdown threat

WASHINGTON — Congress returns to a changed political landscape Tuesday as newly-elected lawmakers arrive in Washington, the parties elect new leadership and incumbents square off for one final legislative sprint before House Democrats take power.

Voters swept away eight years of House Republican control in last week's election, creating a new political dynamic that's challenging President Donald Trump even before the new 116th Congress begins in January.

For their last act, Republicans will try to deliver on Trump's promise to fund the border wall, which could spark a partial federal government shutdown in weeks. Newly emboldened Democrats are in no mood to cooperate over wall money. Instead, they'll be pushing to protect special counsel Robert Mueller's probe from acting Attorney General Matt Whitaker, who has criticized the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. All sides must agree to a federal funding bill to prevent a partial government shutdown from beginning on Dec. 7.

Mary is Dick’s “gay-married” daughter. Liz is the one who just got elected to Congress.

I think,....we are going to be pleasantly surprised.

I think McCarthy and Cheyney are stronger than we think.

I think this is going to work out pretty well.

Just My Humble Opinion.

"It's impossible to manage a legislative agenda with a constituency spread across so many geographic, demographic and political groups"

... and yet, that is/was the essence of his job. The Democrats seem to have somehow been able to nationalize their agenda. That's because they stick together and never ever quit pushing while playing the hardest possible Rock Solid Hardball against us.

It is indeed very frustrating how little the overall Republican Congress has accomplished. But if you look at just the House, under Ryan it passed a humongous amount of very conservative bills that would undo almost all of the Obama era. But the Senate has acted on practically nothing because of its glacial processes, filibuster, minuscule majority, weasels like McCain and Flake, obstruction and delays by Rats, and prioritizing judicial confirmations. The blame for “getting nothing done” is solidly on the Senate, and specifically on a few Republican “mavericks.”
>

And, I would contend, it’s exactly WHY the House passed ANYTHING: knowing N-O-T-H-I-N-G, but was pre-approved behind closed-doors, would see the light of day on the floor.

EG: Passing 6+ O’Care repeals prior to the ‘16 election, running on passing the repeal, WINNING control of D.C., then “somehow” not able to pass even ONE of the 6+ prior bills again.

They swept away a party ossified into do-nothingness by RINOs.

Democrats: "2 years of Republican do-nothingness? Hold my beer!"

Paul Ryan did not even try to get us a Southern Border Wall which we need very badly right now and President Trump is a builder who knows what it takes to build a 30' High Border Wall Fence.

Paul Ryan is a Never Trumper and I did not like that from the Speaker of the People's House plus he supposedly is a Republican.

Partner, Paul Ryan did not even try to be a good speaker of the House.

We are not fans of Paul Ryan, period. Also, did you know that when went he ran as V.P. candidate with Mittens Romney he could not even win his district!

Partner, we need to close down the Govmint if Congress does not give President Trump the Southern Border Wall that we need so badly right now.

Partner, we are having way to many Illegal Aliens voting in our Elections and they need to be kicked out of the country for good because they voted illegally.

Enough is Enough of this Bravo Sierra.

Partner, I agree that we need Jim Jordan as the Speaker of the House since we need someone who is a street fighter and he does have street sense as Tammny Bruce mentioned on Fox Business Channel.
