Outsiders think of Arizona as one of the reddest states. From Barry Goldwater to anti-immigration hawks like Sheriff Joe Arpaio, our most famous politicians tend to be Republicans. But traditionally, Arizona is rather purple and regularly features tight statewide elections.
In the past 45 years, Democrats have held the governorship as often as the Republicans. But in the last decade, the GOP consolidated their hold on power due to the unprecedented organization of the Tea Party and the Lefts hyperbolic anti-Arizona rhetoric in the wake of the illegal immigration debates. (Vote for us, you dumb racists! wasnt the winning message Democrats expected.) Last Tuesday, the pendulum finally swung back to the center.
Many non-Arizonans wonder how decorated fighter pilot Martha McSally could have lost to a progressive-turned-moderate like Kyrsten Sinema. Excuses like Trump lost the suburbs and Democrats cheat miss the point. Instead, here are five local reasons this race turned out as it did.

Not only that, but the Republican governor won by a huge margin. And McSally just easily concedes? Something isn't right.
McSally will replace Kyle in 2020. That was the deal.
I just don’t find this that odd. Here in NJ weve elected many GOP Governors, including recently, Christie twice.
We have never, as long as I can remember, elected a GOP Senator. Governors races are fairly meaningless. People view them very differently than federal appointments.
I dont find this strange at all except in AZ in general where youd think a DEM would never really flourish. But then again, they probably see her exactly as they saw McCain.
Plus, 6 years is a long time and the margin you quote isn’t that great. Population could have shifted big time in 6 years and CA residents moving to AZ turning the state purple also account.
Yeah, the Democrat Thug Party cheats

There. Now you don’t have to read the article.
Mormons were angry at the way President Trump treated Flake. This was their revenge.
1) Vote fraud.
2) Vote fraud.
3) Vote fraud.
4) Vote fraud.
5) John McCain
What do I win?
Prevent Defense and a RINO, just like Romney lost the Presidential election.
It shouldnt have even been a contest. Smh...
Mexicans, Guatemalans, Salvadorans, Indians, and Californians.
That, and voting for Romney in Utah.
Couldn’t be, I’ve been called and idiot, told she’s just a lousy candidate...no fraud, just a Flake and McCain effect.
It is fraud, and it is sad our side on Freep doesn’t want to look at statistics or facts or both.
Plus, the article raises points that are spot on. Sinema is hot too.
The Cheap Labor Express is happy as long as AZ keeps two amnesty Senators.
They don’t care what jersey they wear as long as they support amnesty.
Spineless bastard RNC!! I hate them!!! This race was stolen and the MFERS just looked on with mcsally just bending over and taking it!! And now I hear they found more FL vote boxes from the penitentiary!! MY GOD WHERE WILL IT STOP!! This is pure and simple MOCKERY!! In GA ALL VOTES MUST count joke even the ones that are still being cast.... SC MUST GET INVOLVED!! It’s out of control ....PLEASE MR PRESIDENT HELP US!!!
I thought the deal was whoever lost the primary was going to replace Kyl. So, Kelly Ward.
Top 5 reasons?
McSally refused to clearly side with the citizens and the rule of law.
I can think of 3 - McCain machine, Flake, and our candidate wasn’t a Trump backer or conservative...
So they vote for a prog moonbat who probably hates Mormons with a passion?
Mormons are weird.
