Not really. The war on the Eastern Front had already turned bad for the Germans by the time Pearl Harbor hit. Germany never had any chance of prevailing in Russia save for one long shot. That would be a Thrust straight for Moscow with no distractions. But even then, realistically the fall of Moscow would not have change the final outcome. Napoleon made the mistake of thinking seizing the capital meant he got the whole country.
Russia sure as hell wouldn’t have won without all the logistics backbone provided to them by the Allies.....450,000 trucks (they had no significant automotive industry)....2,000 locomotives at a time when they produced 200...etc. Without that there is zero chance the Soviet Union is able to project power all the way into Central Europe. They’d have had the same problem the Germans did once they got too far from their supply bases.
If the Russians had beaten the Germans, Europe would have traded Nazi domination for Soviet domination. The Soviets would have liquidated a higher proportion of the European population than the Nazis did.
Very true. But in addition one cannot overlook the military materiel we provided them in those dark days until the Soviets were able to build up their war machine further east. The courage it took for the American and British Merchant Marine to make those voyages to Archangel unarmed or lightly armed in icy, Uboat infested waters is amazing.
Except the US was sending aid to Russia before the war started.
Without Lend-Lease the Soviets would have lost. At least, that’s what Stalin said.
“Not really. The war on the Eastern Front had already turned bad for the Germans by the time Pearl Harbor hit.”
Thanks to Lend Lease and all the other aid. Russia would’ve starved to death long before they took Germany had we not been footing the bill. It was Russian made tanks that rolled into Berlin but it was American machines that built them and American trucks and train engines that were hauling the gas and food to keep them moving.
Germany stomped Russia and would’ve kept stomping had we not helped them completely rebuild their industry on the other side of the Urals. Russians would’ve starved to death trying to rebuild if not for the colossal amount of food we sent.
Correct. Stalin ordered whole factories disassembled and moved east away from the front.
