Retired firefighter who fired shotgun at black teen asking for directions gets up to 10 years

Follow up to my "failed arguments." Excerpt from a different story on this incident.

In a statement the day after the gunfire, Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett said, “I am personally sickened by the initial reports, and they suggest behavior completely unacceptable and inconsistent with the character and values of our community. Our city has a strong and unwavering policy when it comes to acts of hatred.”

This report said "intent to Murder" and "possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony"

Zeigler, a retired Detroit Fire Department lieutenant, is charged with assault with intent to murder and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The assault charge can carry a penalty of any term of years up to life in prison, and the firearm offense carries a mandatory two-year sentence.

Reading further in the article, it becomes clear why this man was given such harsh punishment for a crime in which no actual harm was done to anyone.

Liberal identity politics were involved, and this man was the football. Now the story makes sense, though it still seems to me to be a miscarriage of justice.

Agreed. This moronic retired firefighter had everything coming to him, not to mention he is a proven hothead.
The convoluted and circuitous path people are taking to defend this crackpot are just...unreal.

He stepped out onto his own porch and made his own decision to shoot at some fleeing kid who posed no risk to him.
This whackadoodle got a good deal. He will be out of prison in time to observe the last few years of President Trump’s second term.
