To be fair to Macron, he sort of has a point regarding France being a “historic ally” to the US. After all, if it weren’t for the French and Spanish, we wouldn’t even HAVE America as an independent nation, and if anything we’d still be under British control.
Still, if you’re going to view us as a historical ally, how about actually TREATING us like one and not demonizing Trump or nationalism. I mean, what, are you going to denounce Charles de Gaulle, who by your definition was a traitor? I may not like Charles de Gaulle for stupidly invoking Voltaire when pardoning Sartre (and forgetting that Voltaire not only had been arrested multiple times in his lifetime, but his penname was formed in jail), but I at least give him due respect for actually looking out for his country’s best interests. Let’s hope Marine Le Pen, or better yet, her niece Marina, kicks that loser out and make France great again, make it as great as it was pre-1789.
