Ilhan Omar's Election Shows That Democrats Aren't Interested in Confronting Anti-Semitism

Ilhan Omar, one of the first two Muslim women to be elected to Congress, is a new kind of politician. She's telegenic, ideologically progressive, widely celebrated by a media that's obsessed with identity politics. She's the kind of politician who can openly side with Hamas against Israel or spread "Protocols of the Elders of Zion"-style conspiracies on Twitter, claiming that Jews possess the supernatural ability to hypnotize the world as they unfurl their "evil."

It's not surprising, then, that Omar also supports the "boycott, divestment and sanctions" movement. In a statement to the website Muslim Girl, someone on Omar's staff explained that yes, "Ilhan believes in and supports the BDS movement, and has fought to make sure people's right to support it isn't criminalized. She does however, have reservations on the effectiveness of the movement in accomplishing a lasting solution."

So although Omar contends that BDS will be ineffective in getting the sides to "a lasting solution," she stills "believes in and supports" a movement that smears the Jewish state as a racist endeavor and aims to destroy it economically. Is it a mystery why some Jews might find that positioning offensive?

Omar has supported BDS for a while, even though she will now occasionally slip in some platitudes about the peace process. As Scott Johnson of Power Line points out, Omar misled Jewish voters in her district, obfuscating about her position and, as she still does, conflating her support for BDS with a bill that would have stopped continued taxpayer funding of the movement. No one is attempting to "criminalize" anti-Israel speech, although it's heartening to see that Omar is a free speech absolutist. We'll see whether her position on the "criminalization" of speech will remain consistent moving forward.

As far as I know, not even outgoing Rep. Keith Ellison, who once accused the shifty Jews of running American foreign policy, has openly supported the BDS movement. Not even J Street, the progressive front for hard-left activists posing as Israel supporters, has openly backed BDS. Nor has George Soros, although he has intermittently funded BDS groups in the past and has been active against the Jewish state for years.

Of course, BDS proponents will tell you they are anti-Zionist, not anti-Semitic. But when you are fixated on the only liberal state in the Middle East and avoid criticism of any Islamic regimes that deny their own citizens the most basic of human rights, you, at the very least, betray a morally bankrupt position. Even as Hamas rains hundreds of rockets down on civilians -- a nihilistic project that always takes precedence over investing in its own people in its own autonomous Palestinian territory -- there is criticism from those who only see evil behind Jewish acts of self-defense.

It's no mistake that Omar insists Israel is an "apartheid regime," an ugly, simplistic, misleading and irresponsible accusation. It's not only the propellant for anti-Semitism on campuses across the country but also the foundational accusation of the BDS movement, which is attempting to re-create the campaign against racist South African apartheid in the 1980s.

Israel's laws, of course, make absolutely no distinctions based on a person's race. Every person in Israel has the ability to participate in the democratic process, and all have equal standing under the law. Muslims in Israel have more liberal rights than Muslims anywhere in the Arab world do. What we do have is a complex situation involving onetime Jewish land that once again fell under Israeli rule after a bunch of neighboring countries tried to destroy it

Yet Democrats, who claim to hear anti-Semitism dog whistles from every porch in red America, rarely see a problem with this kind of rhetoric. The FBI says that Jews were the victims of 60 percent of religiously motivated hate crimes in 2017, although they are just 2 percent of the population. Whatever inherent flaws exist in these self-reporting statistics, the disparity is real. Despite the horrific shooting in Pittsburgh and Jew hatred on the far right, it's almost certain that the average American Jew is likelier to encounter an aggressively "anti-Zionist" BDS activist on a campus (or at a progressive march) than to come across a white supremacist anywhere.

Just ask Tamika Mallory or Linda Sarsour or Sophie Ellman-Golan as they simultaneously infantilize and radicalize mainstream left-wing politics. Not a single Democratic Party leader has condemned their ugly rhetoric or relationship with hatemongers or their insistence on singling out the one country that happens to be filled with Jews. Then again, not one Democrat has condemned Omar for comparing the Jewish state to a racist regime.

Put it this way: TV actress turned activist Alyssa Milano has been more courageous than Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer about standing up against anti-Semitism. Actress Debra Messing is braver than Sens. Brian Schatz, Bernie Sanders, Dianne Feinstein and Richard Blumenthal. Fortunately, not everyone is consumed by sheer political expediency.

Anti-Semitism has been one of the many legs of the Demonrat party for eons. Kick it out, and the party collapses.

Liberal Jews don’t care about anti-Semites unless they are white. She was invited and spoke at a synagogue.

Precisely. They’ve always meant to promote it instead of confront.

yes.
70+ percent vote against their best interests, even now for a party that is promoting anti-Semitism

3 thoughts....may help a bit..

1. some just vote like their great-grandparents did, as a matter of habit.. without thinking much. in the OLD days, the R party was largely unfriendly so they went D then ...FDR appointed a few (very highly-qualified and visible) Jewish people (even tho he was quite anti-Semitic in more important ways) and that was seen as a breakthrough, a reason to vote D, whereas the R party then, as with the GOP-E now, was largely run by “country club elites” that didn’t let many Jewish people into their clubs or colleges or businesses or the R party or anything much else.
OF COURSE TODAY’S JEWISH VOTERS SHOULD VOTE BASED ON TODAY’’S CONDITIONS.... but, alas, 70% + of them seem stuck in Habit mode, alas!

2. I met a very nice young Jewish lady from NYC... and I’ve listened and read NYC mass media... and there’s a constant leftist brainwashing going on in so much of today’s mass media...of course, this impacts (and is designed to impact) all kinds of voters, not only Jews... but since many Jews live in the NY media market, they get a full dose of this kind of Goebbels type Big Lie slanted brainwashing. The young lady was VERY intelligent, indeed she was visiting to lead an advanced level academic seminar......but her grasp of matters politic were just awful, she basically understood NOTHING... all she could manage to do was to parrot the anti-DJT propaganda she hears on the NY radio and TV all day

(I don’t blame her, she was willing to listen when I suggested she could learn something useful about politics...but ... how often do people actually chat with each other across party lines nowadays, especially in places like NYC where people barely talk at all with each other, other than perhaps to hurl invectives, ha!)

3. There is within the Jewish community a sickness that does in fact appear to infect a large number of people.. it is a consequence of all the antiSemitism their families have had inflicted on them, it is sometimes called Jewish Stockholm Syndrome, or Jewish Suicide Syndrome, or Jewish self-hate disease, or whatever. Basically, they adopt the anti-Semitic bias they’ve had inflicted on them for so long...and thus, vote (without much conscious thought, alas) for their worst enemies.

4. There has been a tendency among some of the secularized or “reform” type Jewish people to sort of equate their “religious faith” with what has now come to be called a “social justice agenda”... this distortion of Jewish teaching has even been pushed or taught by a number of the “reform” rabbis in recent year.. so that the sermons are largely about leftist “good ideas” instead of, say, Biblical moral instruction and values. This is similar to many Roman Catholic churches nowadays...and all of the so-called “liberal” or WCC type Protestant churches. This is a disease, a misrepresentation of the once-Biblical/ Judeo-Christian faiths... and I hold some of the clergy as most responsible.

Best I can do to analyse the problem.
it does transcend denominations...as noted...so many Protestant churches are preaching or teaching such utterly anti_Biblical and IMMORAL trash nowadays! As are some RCC priests, alas.

times have changed, and not altogether for the better...

Put it this way:

One has a pebble in their shoe. It supposedly causes discomfort, which the person complains about. If, after a period of time the pebble isn’t removed, what’s the conclusion?

The pebble isn’t really a discomfort.
The complaining is nothing more than created drama and attention whoring.

I don’t listen to the complaining anymore.

And it was sad and painful drawing the conclusion that I did. I take no joy in it.

But...look at the facts. Look at what’s done and just said.

Actually, the answer to why leftist Jews vote Dem despite growing anti-Jewish sentiment in the Rat party and among progressives in general is much more simple — it’s because the issues they feel most strongly about are "LGBTQ", abortion-on-demand, multiculturalism, and so-called climate change. Israel is way down the list, and they’re in denial about Islamic anti-Semitism because of guilt over criticizing brown people.

So given those facts, who are they going to vote for, Republicans?

Thankfully a quarter of American Jews (on average) vote sanely.

Thanks. Tells me this:

WE DON'T WANT LIBERAL JEWS BECOMING REPUBLICANS - DEMOCRATS CAN KEEP THEM... NOW AND FOREVER.

Why?

Why wouldn’t they support Christians? We bring the world to the Hebrew God...

Why don’t they support Israel?

I advice taking some time to read articles from here: https://heartiste.wordpress.com for example.

Then research your findings, apply them to the world and see what you come up with.

Everything is right in front of you (or anyone that seeks the truth).

Anyone who trusts the legitimacy of election results in California is out of it.

Not in 24 years and 641 individual general election races since has a Republican defeated a Democrat incumbent in a federal race, not ONE. But yet EVERY incumbent defeated has been a Republican.

The legitimate statistical improbability of that is off the charts.

Yet...”crickets”...
