Escaping the Politics of Anger
Townhall.com ^ | November 17, 2018 | Michael Reagan

I realize the Democrats took over the House, which is not new news.

But I'm tired of hearing Nancy Pelosi and other liberals in Congress say that now we need to start working together. Now we need bipartisanship.

Really? Where have they been for the last umpteen years?

Since at least 2016, I haven't noticed the Democrats clamoring for compromise and cooperation in Washington or on CNN.

Suddenly Nancy Pelosi wants to practice bipartisanship? Yeah, right.

I agree with President Trump.

Now that Democrats are in charge of the House and looking under every bed for excuses to impeach Donald Trump, they also need to start writing some legislation.

No matter how "bipartisan" their bills are, of course, they probably won't get past the U.S. Senate or the president's desk.

In other words, for the next two years we'll have gridlock. Nothing major will get done on issues like immigration reform or our trade deals with China.

Meanwhile, out here in California we've been burying the victims of last week's mass shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill and wondering if there's any place left in America where we can take our families that's safe.

When I was growing up in the 1950s all I had to worry about in school was diving under my desk once a month in case the Russians dropped a nuclear bomb on us.

Today, my son Cameron, who's a stay-at-home dad, has to worry about sending his kids to grade schools where they are holding active shooting drills.

Who ever thought 50 years ago that we'd have to be concerned about this danger?

We now have a whole generation of parents, and grandparents too, who are worrying about where they can go without being shot down by some mad man.

A movie theater? A baseball field? A grade school. A synagogue?

Liberals, issuing their usual simplistic knee-jerk reaction, say the problem is guns and the solution to mass shootings is to get rid of all of them.

But the problem is much deeper than guns. I think America has lost its soul.

Spirituality, morality, kindness, the better part of our natures, love for your fellow humans no matter what their politics - it's getting harder and harder to find in our daily lives.

Everyone's angry on TV. Left or right, Fox or CNN, it doesn't matter what side you're on.

Social media and cable networks overflow 24/7 with hate, not calls for political compromise.

They thrive on ratings and clicks and anger - not civility and compromise - to generates their profits.

In my father's time, in the 1970s and 1980s, we debated important political issues, but we did it without trying to destroy our opponents' careers or reputations.

Now everything in politics is personal and nasty.

We don't merely say we disagree with a person's position. Instead we say, "You're a racist. You hate women."

There's hardly anywhere you can go in the mainstream media to hear an uplifting spiritual message or an inspiring leader who rises above petty politics. There's almost nowhere you can relax and make yourself feel good.

I tweeted the other day that people should turn off the news and the cable channels for a night and watch the annual country music awards.

That's what I did. It was just country music and awards. No politics. No anger. No name calling.

It was entertaining and pleasant - an oasis of civility in our angry world. It was something all of us could all use a lot more of.

I watched the speech by Stacy Abrams yesterday. Lose the election so go on a tirade trying to delegitimize the victory of your opponent and the election as a whole.

Basically accuse the entire state and its citizenry of being corrupt. Utterly despicable person. Georgia dodged a bullet with this angry lunatic.

I agree with him.

It’s a good thing to unplug every once in a while. Keeps you grounded.

We need the OLD America back so this stay at home “Dad” doesn’t have to worry so much. You hear that, Mabel?

I think I see the problem.

Sorry but you need a reasonable social consensus of values and behavior to have bipartisanship. The division in America is very real and cannot be bridged.

I have noticed a pattern for quite some time now... every time a Leftist says they want compromise, that signals they’re about to move even further to the left and become even more belligerent and hostile than before.

When a Leftists says they want compromise, your radar should go on full alert.

It was interesting comparing her oh-so-pleasant campaign ad demeanor with the nasty persona she revealed in videos speaking to small groups of Leftists.

I think it’s kind of scary that these absolute Marxist came so close to winning in Georgia and Florida.

“”Georgia dodged a bullet with this angry lunatic.””

Bet we haven’t seen the last of her. They say “a bad penny always returns”...she has a point to make and by golly, she’s going to make it even if it makes her look even more like a real jackass!!! They couldn’t have a better ID than that!

Why don’t we separate the races again and let them represent their own as that’s all they’re interested in anyway - except they need someone to pay their bills and to hate!

WE don’t say ‘you’re racist or you hate women’! That is the accusation hurled at us. My husband opened a ‘begging letter’ from a peripheral aircraft museum and the bottom line was ‘do you want this group to continue? Or are you not interested in the preservation of history?’. The Left has perfected the accusation without any proof. My morning talk show host said yesterday that he’s fed up with the either/or of ‘will you support gun control or do you want more kids dying?’. The other side controls the Media narrative and we need to fight back harder. On that note, I’d like to point out that more often than not, these mass shooters are Leftists. Maybe we should ask political affiliation before we sell guns? Perhaps no more guns to democrats?? (J/k)

These things bring out the worst in the democRATS but that is a good thing.

It exposes their underbelly of hate and vile diatribes towards regular folks for the whole country to see.

One of the things I like about President Trump is his cunning ability to bait the liberals into coming out of the shadows of their public rhetoric and reveal their true selves to be void of intellect, compassion or civility.

This divide will not get better, only worse. Because the democRATS don't know when to stop putting their lying, uncivil, vulgar feet in their collective mouths.

Abrams was not ready for prime time yet. Being a woman and black does not automatically guarantee the election will be won by you.

And calling the people of Georgia racists and sexist because you didn't win, is not exactly an endearing demeanor for gaining more support in the future.

Like you said. Georgia dosed a bullet by not electing this crazy loon. Good riddance for now.

"I think America has lost its soul.
"Spirituality, morality, kindness, the better part of our natures, love for your fellow humans no matter what their politics - it's getting harder and harder to find in our daily lives."

Take time to go to Google Maps and take a look at some of the cites in South America and Mexico.. Use the street view. What you'll see will shock you. If you look close what you'll see is walls, iron bars and concertina wire everywhere.. These people don't even respect there own people so you know they won't respect the "GRENGOS" of the north..

The commies are doing everything they possibly can destroy our great nation.. Not only from within, but with invaders from the south as well.. They know they can't defeat us with strength of arms so they rush our borders UNARMED... They used our laws of equal justice against us..

These people are not coming here with morality, kindness, and love for their fellow man.. Their coming here to take whatever they get.. It's nothing more then a strong armed robbery..!
